Align time depends on direction?

For a stationery ship (such as one immediately after gate jump), does it matter if i warp straight ahead or warp to an object that's 180 degrees behind me?

No....

For some reason, people perpetuate this myth, using phrases like "passively aligned" and other bullshit.

If your ship is NOT moving, your align time will be the same no matter which direction you warp.

If your ship is moving (especially if it is moving with an AB or MWD), then the direction it is moving compared to your warp out destination matters.

No is correct but your explanation is not exact. Only after gate jump and only after cyno jump your speed is exactly zero or more mathematical you have a zero vector. In any other situation your speed is not zero even if EVE shows you zero speed of course the more speed you have the more time it takes to align 180° in the other direction.

This is true. However, due to the 1Hz server tick speed, it is so miniscule that it will almost never matter.

If it helps, imagine your ship as a sphere inside a (game mechanic-wise completely irrelevant) skin; the direction this skin looks does not matter.
So, if at zero speed and you start flying into any direction, the acceleration will aways be the same.

its even worse, some use the term passive/active alignment for totally unrelated things. For example some FCs use active algined for aligned with prop mod, and passive aligned for aligned without prop mod.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

The ship models in eve are just eye candy, everything works on vectors with velocity and mass like previously stated. A null vector is a null vector and doesnt have alignment.

The ship models are actually one step better than a sphere. they're a sphere with a designated front, and so if you get lucky and have an align time thats on the edge of two server ticks, this "passive align" can cause you to get out one tick faster.
