I'm still somewhat new to the game. I figured the most people were doing was an alternate account to mine.

When I lost my astero to a cyno alt in an interceptor I figured one guy with two accounts.. Whatever, boosting is OP but whatever. Ill get over it.

Now me and two friends were doing lowsec sites, and a guy I knew to be a boost alt jumped in.. I knew exactly who would follow as i've seen this exact guy do it before. I've also seen his corp gate camping but non of them have caught me yet. So then an azaru jumps in, the frigate we have jumps out and I start doing logi on our battlecruiser, but then it cynos in two black ops battleships. They neut me once then stop I dunno why. They drone me untill I warp out and I come back in just enough time to get 3 cycles on my overheated reps before he dies.

Now later someone mentions to me this guy has a crap ton of alts, and will multibox to kill your pos. So wait a second, those two in black ops who also gate camp are probalby just his alts? Do we now need multiple accounts to win at the game? I was already having trouble winning pvp's vs one person, but I now find out they can just warp a crapload of their own accounts down on me to blow me up. If it was just this one guy, he wouldn't just jump one unboosted black ops on an exequror, a prophecy and a vengeance would he?

My buddy wondered how I got out with all that tackle going on. I guess it make sense if it was just one guy he wouldn't be able to multitask to the point of catching multiple people, all he did was assign his drones to shoot at me in the first place.

This doesn't even cover the person with 20+ alts warping into an ice belt the other day, they all turned on at the exact same time. He admitted to multiboxing when I asked. Different person though.

So how is this even fair? I had friends, this guy who usually had a boost alt and one ship just logged onto more accounts to deal with more people? How does one compete against this? I don't have the money to spend 300+$ a month, nor the computer power to mine the plex's on that many accounts. Maybe this is why plex's are going up as well, and unless I join goonswarm or something it seems i'm doomed to be dropped on by alt accounts with no possible way to do anything except run away if i'm not caught.

At least the guy I spoke too said to contact him if I ever needed help, because hes apparently a prick as well. He didn't even respond to my buddy saying GF. I don't see how he would help though, as it took half the day of flying around before this dude showed up. Now he sits in highsec again in a station on one of his accounts.

The thing is my buddy got his arazu to half armor before his cyno ended and that account left. We didn't have any scram unfortunately.

It was also an arazu specifically to catch at least one person. The vengeance is a frigate and fast, I was in a rep cruiser at a distance.


So he chose to kill the battlecruiser, most expensive target. I also know the guy lives in these lowsec systems, although no stations.

I lost a gila to 20 talwars on a gate, thing is I thought it was hilarious, they had a sense of humor as well. It was a PL fleet.

The more accounts you have, the more times the Yule Lads will leave you Fedoes ! ! ! ! ! !

So, your one T1 battlecruiser and logi (200-300 mil ISK at most) got defeated by a T2 recon, T3 booster, and two T2 battleships (total 3-4 bil ISK). Doesn't sound like a problem to me, especially since you yourself admitted you knew what was coming: an overwhelming attack from someone with too much money.

You know what a good way is to defeat someone who throws this much money at Eve? Make their investment pointless. Don't give them the fun they're looking for. Unless you're 100% sure you can handle him and drop him with overwhelming force, simply leave. Imagine you're playing a strategy game like Starcraft, and you punch in some infinite resources cheat codes (which cost you real life money), build a super army, and go to attack someone just to find they're not there and your entire investment is pointless, and left you sitting there with an empty wallet and some pointless blingy stuff. That is how the multibox ganker feels when you deny his fun. He might even taunt you in local and call you a coward. You can tell him to go fleet with himself and play with himself, if you want, but remember: he's the one who spends hundreds of dollars on a cheat code that you just rendered null.

Additionally, remember that given all else is equal, 4 real people with 1 account each will always beat 1 real person with 4 accounts multiboxed, for the very reason you mentioned (can't micromanage as well). This is less of an issue in PvE (like mining), but that's a known ongoing "problem" or "working as intended", depending on whom you ask.

Anyway, it's all well and expected, and remember: there are sometimes other ways of winning than blowing up the other guy. Make his multiboxing unfun, and he'll stop (or go elsewhere). Stand and fight when you know you'll lose, and you just encourage him.

Just my 0.02 ISK, from having faced too many "solo" PvPers with boosting and ewar alts.

Addendum: you can also mock him for not having friends, since a 4-man group with real people is far more effective than a 4-alt group, so the only reasons to do the latter are either you have no friends, or you enjoy throwing a lot of money away to be suboptimal and bad.

You gotta know how to approach it.

Some people like having different accounts doing different things or like not having to get a cyno chain up from scratch with other people and would rather do it themselves.

I mine with alts while doing proper money stuff on my main :P

I do support the idea of ultility, or afk mining while doing other things.. I dunno, maybe i'm just mad.

Before I rant, a disclaimer: I do not have a problem with multiboxing, even in PvP. I have a problem with disingenuity, chestbeating, and false appearances.


I am also introverted. I also often hate everybody, and despite being a decent FC, great scout/tackler, and all around good team player, I often prefer to keep to myself and find fights alone. Alone alone, no alts, no backup, and usually in a T1 fit Rifter. In this "challenging" and "nerfed into the ground" state, I still manage to regularly achieve victory against T2 fit frigates, destroyers, and sometimes even when outnumbered. I have done this in a wide variety of ships up to and including battleships, and know several other players who do the same (a couple of them prominentstreamers if you are wondering how they do it). Sure, it's not as easy as being in a blob, but I wanted to cite my experience before calling the "forced to use alts" excuse as utter horseshit. If you're "forced" to use alts to have any sort of success, I'm afraid you were not very good in the first place, and as soon as you can admit that, you can begin recovery. I recommend not using alts so you can be challenged to get better, and not complain about how hard soloing is.

Maybe you actually are good and just like to use alts to have a jolly good time dunking people. That is perfectly fine. That's what you are paying for after all. You know what's not fine though? Pretending you're "solo". Winning a "1v1" by using two boosting alts, a remote repair alt, and having a cloaked Falcon on hand in case things go south is not anything to brag about. I might be projecting, but this is by far the worst that multiboxing has to offer: risk averse "solo" PvPers hiding under the "but I'm forced to do it" excuse to throw some money in and suddenly be "pro" because they have enormous force multiplication at zero extra risk (mostly talking about off-grid boosters here). In the end it just ends up hurting solo PvP by creating the perception that billions of ISK are necessary to solo -- which you seem to subscribe to.

So please, if you PvP with alts, don't pretend you're "solo", because you're not.

In simple terms, yes you can win pvp in eve by multiboxing, and sadly it's actually quite common, it's a blight on the game, and CCP actually encourages this as it means way more money for them. Also as someone else already pointed out, in many cases multiboxing is more effective than having multiple real people due to perfect timing of alpha and perfectly coordinated dps application.

Sadly it just exists and there is nothing you can do about it, even if it was against the EULA instead of encouraged, it will still happen as companies are too lazy to enforce what amounts to extra revenue.
