Constantly freezing up

I would like point out a possible cause to our Freezing / Crashing / Hanging issues with the Mac Clients.

Wine & DirectX:

Many of my Control-Alt-Shift-M evelogs appear to indicate Graphical issues… I have read of the Forums that Window users have had many DX11 DX9 issues. CCP / GMs have stated that MAC does not use Direct X. I think this maybe part of the Issues since EVE is running on Wine which uses Windows API and Wine supports Direct X 9c. Unfortunately MAC Launcher does not have a DX option in the settings like Windowed clients.

Is this Intentional an Omission or an Error? (Do not tell me CCP and Developers do not make errors.)

What does CCP say about installing DirectX via winetricks, winebottler or wineskin or completely installing a different version of wine than CCP uses.

Issues with bug Reporting:

Control-Alt-Shift-M
evelogs, there is no option to rename the logs for multi clients… SO for this I can only obtain evelogs for one client at a time. There is not even an Option to save these to a different location. I assume because eve-online runs in a version of wine makes it so you can not save them outside of the Virtual environment, but I would still like to relocate the Logs and save multi logs by “EVElog/AccountName/date/time.log”.

Cider:
by-passes the Launcher and loads EVE Online the Old way.
In Terminal you can run Cider Logging as indicated in the Mac Bug Reporting site: https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Mac_bug_reporting#Generating_Cider_Logs

Quote:
For Tranquility: /Applications/EVE\ Online.app/Contents/Resources/EVE\ Online.app/Contents/MacOS/cider --debugmsg +seh,+tid,+module,+debugstr --cmdline=" /server:87.237.38.200" &> ~/Desktop/Year-Month-Day-EVEcrashlog01-AccountName-Session01.log

For Multi Clients run the line several times but change then log name for each account you run.
Format: Year-Month-Day-EVEcrashlog##-AccountName-Session##.log

Note: If you log out and back in without crashing like changing chars on same account the session## changes not the Crashlog##.

I prefer outputting this log file to a different /Volume for Hard Drive performance reasons and they get very Large. A USB drive works Great.

Bug Reporting Website:
500 Internal Server Error
I can not send my Screenshots, Logs, Zipped from the Bug report Website as it states that I can as long as I am below file size limits. When attempting to send the files attached I get a 500 Internal Server Error Every time. I have filed many bug reports in game but I can not send files from in game except for active in game issues Meaning you do not get the APPLE application CRASH Logs or the debug logs.

Note: the wikis need to list the main servers IP to be clear. Most people use Tranquility so that should be used as default IP when showing people how to do something.

20-30 is good enough :) I experience freezes after 5-10 min.
Just tried if anything fixed - I could only undock & warp to asteroid belt.
As soon as warp bubble collided - client freeze.

If I start EVE as Win Client in Crossover - it's flickering as christmas tree
after latest patch.

Well done CCP! :)

UPDATE:

I sent a support ticket and their reply helped me to fix my problem. This is what I did:

Clear your clients preference files using the Terminal utility:

1. Open the Terminal interface which can be found in the Applications -> Utilities folder
2. In the Terminal window type the following: chflags nohidden ~/Library/
3. Type in the following line then press enter: cd ~/Library/Application\ Support/
4. Now type in the following line and press enter : rm -r EVE\ Online/

After clearing these files, downloading a new patch, and entering the game my frozen screen issue seems to be gone for now.

Hopefully maybe this can help someone else with a similar problem.

I have had the problem for awhile when opening the star map, then it spread to when I approached a titan. The truely odd thing was I run a second toon as well and for a long time it wasn't effected. Since jan 28th the problem has spread to include both toons. So the way it is right now : Session change 1 toon 60 % of time the other toon 10%. Drones deployed by others 100% both toons, open ingame browser 100% both toons. Overall this situation made combat horrific with constant lock ups. Pls fix asap

Well it's not the "flicker freeze" that others have been getting, but since the last big patch I've defiantly been getting the old "normal" mac freeze a lot more now. (and yea it's pretty bad when you have to differentiate between the "normal" and "new" crashes of a client!)

Since I'm getting them more regularly I've been able to notice a few possible factors in my case. First it seems the in game browser (which you have to use since you can't copy and paste outside the mac client??) seems to be one factor. A couple of my crashes came just after clicking a link in fleet that started to load a page, then the client just freezes up. The other instance seem to be entering or exiting warp. This is by far the most common one I get.

Still hosed, still flickering hanging. I'm almost ready to cancel my account. This is just ridiculous.

My system log is full of:

2/11/14 8:45:41.000 PM kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error

While I am able to sometimes log in I agree withe Kerina the underlying problem still exists. Sometimes I have to reboot my computer 3 or 4 times before I can get past the character select screen. Sometimes the character select screen doesn't show. The problem is not fixed.

I downloaded the patch today, attempted to logon with the Eve Launcher. Game gets to the character selection screen for login, the screen goes black, and then the computer locks up, requiring a hard shut down of my Mac. This was only an issue after the last patch.

I have already cleared my cache and had same results. Petition filed. Anyone know anything... workarounds... if they are 'fixing' the fix... or anything?

Tanks alot.

(my Drake, she tanks- alot)

As of 2/13/14, the problem persists.

I have been unable to use my other acct, to update my contracts and queue since the last big patch, over a week now. CCP replied in my petition that there was a new patch to fix the patch. I DL that as well, with no Joy. Even my workaround is barely working anymore.

C'mon guys... pull this crap together!

Having nasty freezes here too. Can login (sometimes) and choose a character (sometimes) and get to the hanger (sometimes) but as soon as I open the fitting window - bang, everything locks up, can't force quit and have to hard power off.

iMac 27", mid 2011, 2.7GHz i5, 12Gb RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6770M.

Pretty sure I'm not under specced.

I set up a 2nd client and logged into Singularity (the test server). The issue is non existent there. Looking forward to tuesday when the patch goes live.

Bizarrely, I also have a new model MacBook Air:

Processor 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 5000 1024 MB

No lockups at all. Runs beautifully. Go figure.

Yeah the freeze up and black screen we were all having were on Nvidia cards lower than 9600m/330m.

Though the problem has now been patched and fixed (Presumably) Blink

Hrm - my iMac was locking up whenever I opened the fitting window and that was with an AMD Radeon HD 6770M.

Guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed!
