OS X Mavericks - Second monitor is black

Hi,

Since OS X Mavericks, we can use a fullscreen app and still use the second monitor to do other stuff.

But when playing EVE, the game uses the primary monitor and blacks out the other ones.

I was wondering if it was possible to implement that new Mavericks feature?

Otherwise, are there any workarounds?

Thanks and have a nice day.

Although when I play Eve, my second monitor does not black out, as a workaround, don't play in full screen mode maybe :P Put the window on the monitor without the taskbar, and it is almost full screen. Make it as large as ur resolution allows -> solved :D

That's what I've been doing for the past week, it ain't perfect but at least I can use all my monitor space to do whatever I need :P

Thanks!

This is a problem with most mac games not on the App Store, and even some old ones there still take up the whole screen (they sure as hell aren't going to update BioShock just to deal with a screen issue). We need an update to fix that. BTW, is there anything that would prevent or discourage CCP from putting the EVE Client on the App Store? It's free anyway, plus it'd take care of a lot of updates and still let the app behave independently.

I suspect the payment method is the issue.

If CCP really uses the Mac AppStore you can plan HUGE delays for Updates.

you wouldn't be able to play for 1-2 weeks after patches and expansions.

The catch 22 with apple store is they have to approve patches before release. This can be days to weeks.

I have apps that I get direct from vendor that I can get patches from right away on release. With app store users they won't see that patch for days till approved for release.

Worst case some apps aren't even fully functional from the store. I use BBedit. If you get from app store you won't get the command line tools/features it has. Apple is picky about what goes on the site...and apparently command line modfying tools falls under this. The devs of bbedit however put them on thier site for after you realized you bought from the wrong source lol.

Generally with mac apps....if you can get them from devs themselves do that. If you like fast patching anyway. Or steam, steam good for this. But....ccp and them have had issues in the past as well lol.

I think a good reason is that an app on the app store has to go through review. I'm not sure the Eve app will work. I've been digging through the actual files and process that the 'Eve Online.app' puts out and this game is a port from the Windows client, and its not like a port where the code is re-used. It is actually run by a wine process and the actual Windows assemblies are included in the resources of the .app file. I can only imagine that if Apple saw that in their app store, they would reject it on the spot.
