ECM is "unfair"? Tough ****, enjoy being beaten into submission while you're helpless. My gang is too big? Wah, wah, I motivated a dozen pilots to fly under me, and your ridiculous self-posturing does nothing for your utility.

THIS. So well said.

This character is two months old, and I already have a list of "pro" players (very active killboards, over 5 years old) who have cried about the fact that I jammed them while others reduced them to dust is somehow "unfair."

All of this from a T1 Griffin. With about 1,000 EHP. If you are unable to counter a single ship that can generally be alpha killed by anything - and then cry that things are "unfair" - you just fail at Eve.

The tears from "pro" PVP players who allow themselves to be caught by a superior force and then whine about how if it was a "1v1" fight they would have won - the most epic lulz in all of Eve. Well, it was not a 1vs1 fight, you got spanked, now type "gf" into local and plot some revenge.

I like your attitude a lot but regarding ECM you are wrong. In short ECM in 1vsX up to the scale of roughly 5v5 is broken like hell. Anything with more than 10peeps on both side 10v10 etc. ECM is more or less useless and in largescale it does not matter at all. I'm calling that broken.

Most good solo/smallscale pilots know that of course and won't engage if a/more than one Griffin, Blackbird, Falcon etc. is visible or choose to call in friends to deal with that ECM stuff.

Edit:
There are some fringe cases like 1xGriffin+1xFrig with no friends coming in, you can deal with that solo in a special fitted frig.

Solo and 1v1 are two completely different things.

If you love to fly solo, by all means do it! Your opponents may do as they wish, so just broaden your engagement envelope to include 1v many and you'll get all the fights you want!

For example, and assuming he's out for the pew pew, the same guy who may be wary to engage a frig 1v1 will very probably engage a dessie or af if he's with 1 or 2 friends (all in frigs). Dessie/af v 2-3 frigs is just as balanced as frig v frig, it's just that people are usually braver (or maybe 'derpier') when they're not alone.

Additionally, 'same ship class' 1v1s tend to often have an almost predetermined outcome based on the whole rock/paper/scissors thing, while 'one big ship' v 'several small ships' allows for many different outcomes. If only for the fact that in a 1v1 there's either a winner and a loser or a draw, in 1 v many you can kill 'em all, die with zero kills, kill 1 and run, kill 2 and run, kill 2 and the third runs, etc... Try it it's loads of fun!

Small tip: in a 1 v many a warp disruptor/scrambler is not always necessary, cuz even if they're doomed people usually dont like to 'play chicken' and warp off with their mates still on the field - even when it would be a rational decision. So consider freeing up a midslot to give yourself an extra edge when you fight outnumbered.

To my own surprise solo PVP is completely alive as I found out the recent days. You just need to look for it at the right places.

1v1s are possibly the most boring thing to do. You know the outcome before the fight even starts if you're a half decent player. The fight is won in eft. Fighting 1 v many actually showcases your skill and are way more fun. If you complain about getting blobbed you either fly AB t1 frigs or are terrible or are both. The majority of my solo kills are without links (unless flying something expensive or that needs links to work), with very cheap implants (if you think implants are cheating, someone spent 3 bill to make themselves go marginally faster and if that's their choice so be it), and I always try and use drugs because it's 5 mill a fight for a huge increase in performance. If you think drugs are cheating I will not try and argue with you because it's hopeless.
