Nvidia GTX680 mac, 680 with 4 Gigs, GTX 780 or new iMac?

My Goal: Multibox 4 clients at highest graphic settings so I can instantly immerse myself without having to shut other off other clients. I only use 1 monitor and building a PC gaming machine or hackintosh is not an option (it would give me away. Wife is watching. always watching. I claim I need the upgrade for photoshop - retouching her pictures is a "get out of jail" pass.)

What I can't figure out is:

  • What does EVE want? What GPU tech does it use (PhsX, CUDA)?
  • How large is the texture package - can it fit it all into 2gb vram, or do I have to get 3 or 4?

Currently: Mac Pro (2008) + GTX 285 mac edition card. No man-cave, sadly.

New iMacs have killer CPU speeds, but limited GPU choices (the iMacs 680 is much weaker than the stand-alone 680) Opposed to, Mac pro has older CPU but GPU can be upgraded, and now it will take a Windows PC card.

The "Mac edition" 680 is the same price as the normal 780 (25% faster). I loose the startup screen and will have to spend ($90) on external power source to be able to get full potential out of it.

Is it time to stop throwing money at an old machine and sell it while I still can, or is the "they dont make them like they used to" expandability better.

Any advice?? Thanks Thanks!! for reading this.

quick add:

Barefeats Chart - iMac v Mac Pro with 680

conclusion: depends on which games you play. CPU = iMac. GPU = MacPro

So what does EVE want?
