got past login freeze today

I have been locked out for days, black character screen, then flicker, but today I got in with these steps:

1. Open launcher, log in, everything looks normal at first.
2. All black character screen appears, then flicker starts.
3. Immediately start clicking blindly in left part of window to choose character. Hear character select noise.
4. Cmd-tab to other application. Cmd-tab back to EVE.

I don't know if all the steps are necessary, I am just reporting what I did that got me past the login freeze.
