Black Screened

I have this issue on my mac mini.

I can play on one toon, but not another.

Toon A can repeatedly play without any issues.

Toon B gets black screened, flickering crashes every time.

I can go backwards and forwards between them, one works, the other doesn't.

That surely has to be telling us something, and it's nothing to do with second screens and internet browsers.

Ok this is a bit weird

I just downloaded todays patch and tried to log on. I was successful. I had no graphics issues at all . Logged in, flew my ship around, updated my training and PI. Then I logged off.

I tried again a few minutes later and the problem returned. Tried again Same thing.

I only have one character. There were no other programs running. It just stopped working on the second login attempt.

The only strange thing I noticed was that the windows on my desktop were acting strange just before I tried the second login. I had a password manager window open, and when I tried to bring the Eve launcher to the front as the active window, the password manager kept coming back in front of it.

I have my system info posted in an earlier message. Let me know if I can give you any more info.

We will beat this thing !!!!!

I'm intrigued to know how it knows which account to have the problem on. All my accounts have the same graphic settings, open gl unchecked and interval setting. The only difference is the overview on my pvp toon is non standard. But when I remove that file from the library and try log in it makes no difference.

Patch didnt solve my problem either, unfortunately. My blind login rate continues to be higher, now that I turned Eve Voice off. I'd say if I let the blacked-out character selection screen just sorta sit there for a couple minutes, before I blindly click on one of the panels, my success rate is somewhere around 70-80%

Daily Update:

Still no change at all. As usually my screen after the login screen just freezes at charackter selection screen. I cleared all caches, used repair tool etc. Even tried the Tab out Tab in method mentioned by someone, but nothing has changed. I turned eve sound off and it didn't solve the problem either.

Go snorlax, Go. Do something please Gives us an Update atleast...

Wish I had some good news, but I don't, other than that we're still trying to figure this out.

I "fixed" this yesterday, weirdly... One time...

I was trying to create a video of the process i was going through to test different settings. I was recording the screen with quicktime.

I deleted all files eve places in my Library folder. Then is started eve without the launcher. I changed to windowed mode and 1024x768 and logged in. I saw the "loading bar" and then everything went black, like it usually does. I clicked to login "blindly" (could see the cursor change in the character select window but coudlnt see the characters). I then waited for a few minutes (the entire video is about 4-5 minutes). My computer is "frozen" from time to time and im unable to change windows from time to time.

After a while i get tired of waiting and i click to stop the recording (quicktime places an stop button in the top bar of the screen). The recording stops and i think the screen "blinked/refreshed". I could see my ship in the hangar. I could spin it around. It was working.

I closed the client to try again. Did try starting the recording later but there where issues with starting the recording when eve was freezing up the computer.

Havn't had time to try it again.

This was the tale of that one time i was able play eve on my laptop. I shouldn't have logged out... ;)

Was wine (or whatever is used), that is shipped with eve, updated when rubicon 1.1 was released? Could that be rolled back? (I understand that rolling back from rubicon is not an option ;) ).

Sorry for suggesting things you have probably already considered.... :P

If this is a combination of machine + account, would it be helpful if you received the cache/settings/library files of someone affected, put these on your own machines and tried to get in game as that character?

I managed to get my flicker freeze to give me console messages, and found the same issue elsewhere on the internet by none EVE users.

Same issue, different situations. I've posted links to this issue OUTSIDE of EVE with the exact same errors as I encountered.

This isn't an EVE exclusive freeze up...

We've tried - looks like it has to be the exact same hardware/OS version - we can't get this to happen inhouse with the exact setup from a user that gets this consistently. The only difference should be the machine being run on.

This is very likely a driver issue. We've been hoping to find a workaround, if we can pin down exactly what in our code triggers this. This is further complicated by the fact that we're going through an emulation layer, of course.

Could it be related to this problem?

"If you ask most MacBook Pro owners about their experience with Cupertino’s flagship notebook, they’ll probably have nothing but good things to say. However, there’s a bunch of people on one thread in the official Apple forums that have been reporting issues with video on the Early 2011 MacBook Pro."

I have been locked out for days, black character screen, then flicker, but today I got in with these steps:

1. Open launcher, log in, everything looks normal at first.
2. All black character screen appears, then flicker starts.
3. Immediately start clicking blindly in left part of window to choose character. Hear character select noise.
4. Cmd-tab to other application. Cmd-tab back to EVE.

I don't know if all the steps are necessary, I am just reporting what I did that got me past the login freeze.

SOmeone posted this to a new thread. Does Command+Tab work for anyone else on this? I don't have my mac with me

Question I'd want to know is if they still experience the flicker crash when flying in space, I don't have the black screen problem but I have the constant flicker when in EVE in space.
