CCP asked, "why don't we have more forum activity?" Here's why.

You're being extremely negative, Craig.

Is there anything to actually suggest that percentage-wise participation on the forums is low, compared to other games?

With 13414 bagillion players you would expect Riot's forums to whip by with new posts, but it's barely faster than here. Many other high population games have quite slow forums.

I think the only exception is Starcitizen's forums, but then they need to keep believing I guess.

I think part of the reason the forums aren't as active as they could be is draconian moderation.

Including the rule about the discussion of moderation.

Well, I started this thread purely as a thought experiment, where I was hoping (as I had a link to it from a bumping freighter thread) to get freighter pilots to draw a line in the sand as to when something unfair becomes acceptable.

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=321702

Unfortunately I did not get them to comment, and only got comments from what I call "the usual suspects" and became a little disheartening to read, sorta-kinda showing that unless you write massive disclaimers before you start writing in these forums, you get swarmed by piranhas.

I knew it might happen, and made an attempt to make such a "disclamer" and still failed.

As my answer as to why we might not have more forum activity is that maybe after reading responses they get scared off even suggesting things.

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

Well...

They need to work harder at that...

I disagree with the OP. Though some of that negativity does appear, the members are old hands at fending off the uncivil. But, I also have to notice the fact this thread isn't locked....probably because of the misplacement of blame for the reduced forum activity. I can prove that by saying what that reason is - or not.

The right to free speech doesn't automatically carry with it the right to be taken seriously.
