Login not getting past authentication

Hi all. Newbro playing since about Jan. 28th or so on a macbook OS x 10.6.8.

The past two days, when I try to log in, the login screen gets caught on "authenticating" and I have to force quit and try again. It seems totally random...if I quit and restart enough times, it will eventually get past authenticating. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is? I tried bypassing the launcher but that didn't work.

Just to vent: I don't think I've ever seen a mac client run as poorly as this. The freezes up pretty regularly then I get these kinds of random bugs that are making Eve unplayable. Fortunately I'm just playing indy/trading while I train for better PvP skills, but I'm really disconcerted about how this will all play out when I'm actually flying and fighting. It seems like I'll be a liability to any corp. /rant off

This is happening to me too. Can't even switch to another app. Have to cmd-option-esc to break out. It doesn't feel like an overall system crash as I can hear other apps (music or video) running.
