I'm having the exact same problem on my Macbook. This started about 2 weeks ago.

I can't quit the game, turn on or off modules, warp, etc. I have to force quit EVE or I have to shut my computer down.

I have already reinstalled the game, it may be worse now than ever. I can't even go 5 minutes of gameplay without this happening.

An update:

After the reinstall did not work, I tried to move my EVE Online folder, within the Library > Application Support folder, to the trash and run the game. That creates a new EVE folder. Now, I log in and the game completely crashes immediately. Can't command + alt + escape anymore, I now have to completely turn my computer off every time I start EVE. So, it made the issue worse. This "fix" is what was recommended to me via support ticket.

I tried to move the folder from trash back into the Application Support folder to overwrite the new folder created when I tried this fix, but that did not work as I received the error message: The operation can’t be completed because the item “wineserver-Scotts-MacBook-Air.local-username” is in use. This was also recommended by the support ticket.

Now, I will be unable to update my skills. Before, I could not play the game, but I at least could update my skills as long as I did it in under 30 - 60 seconds.

This has been happening on all 3 of my accounts since around February 2nd. 9 x 3 = 27 days. 27 days of USD paid game time wasted.

Not wasted, put through a petition and hopefully they will give us something to make up for all of this, maybe PLEX(s), not just game time or game time.

did you tried that "blind-click" if you really want to play or you are one of those who only complaining?

We have not had any luck in reproing this, but we have a patch going out tomorrow where we have at least an attempted fix.

I've gone through all changes to the graphics engine that went out in the patch that seems to have triggered the black screen on character select, and we're basically reverting those changes when running on a Mac. We're grasping at straws here, but I feel we have to try something.

Sorry, something went wrong in prepping the patch, it will be delayed until tomorrow. I'm hoping to get the build out on a test server today so we can at least see if the code change helps - check back later for details.

Can we please receive the 'fixed' patch on Singularity so we can test it doesn't cause flicker lockups?

I have tried everything, even blind-click .. but I always get the black screen. I am not one who complains for no reason, I have always been confident of ccp

I found a good repro for the massive graphic flickering issue (which may be related to the freezes, or may not, but it's certainly waaaaay worse in 1.1). I've bugreported it **, but in brief:

If you bring up a killmail, and then **RAPIDLY** move the mouse up and down over the items in the Fitting and Content list items, other graphic elements (the character portrait, the ship icons, etc) will flicker in a very similar manner to the big flickering on on character selection page. No clicking is required, just mouse movement (and the associated hilighting of items in the list)

HOWEVER, if you move the mouse up and down more slowly, no flickering will occur. One possibility is that it requires multiple state changes per rendered frame to trigger this behavior.

** Update: I tried to bugreport it, but the bugreport system is down. I'm trying to bugreport that, but the bugreporting system is down. Yeah, tried to submit the crash dumps for the freeze bug but it errors out. then I tried to submit a bug for the inability to file a bug report.

500 Server Error.

Deleting the cache for EVE helped me:
1.) open Package Content (right click) of your EVE Online client in Applications
2.) go to Content -> Resources -> cache
3.) delete content of this folder
4.) start launcher
5.) start EVE via cloned app

My launcher crashed today and froze for the second time since Rubicon 1.1 launch. First time was early last week. I ended up redownloading the whole client. I thought not being able to play then, for an entire evening was unusually frustrating while waiting for the client to download. That really says a lot.

If I had to do it again today. I won't say I'd quit Eve, but I would stop playing and paying until the issues were resolved. Don't get me wrong. I see CCP Devs in the forums and it's obviously they are working hard on a fix. The weird thing is this, I feel like I'm kind of stuck in some crazy country music song played backwards. Now that I'm not playing Eve, my dog came back, my wife's home again, even got my pick up truck running.

All joking aside, thanks to Luke Egdald, I was able to clear the cache and my launcher is working once again, downloading the latest patch (and ever hopeful all our crashing issues are behind us). Very grateful I did not have to go through downloading the client again! Thanks Luke!

I've been unable to play since Rubicon 1.1 came out.

System
MacBook Pro

My system log is full of

I'm about ready to cancel my account. I'm frustrated with paying for a game I can't play.

Yesterday's patching problems were resolved and our attempt at fixing the black screen on character select is finally out. Let me know if things have improved.

After today's patch I was able to use the Launcher to get into the game and I'm currently able to play the game BUT my settings are still windowed with everything disabled or set to low. Will reset to default to see what happens. As it is right now I can play the game.

I am still crashing in game after doing a variety of things (Accessing asteroid belt dropdowns, looking at "Loot" overview at a POS, etc). I can also reproduce the screen flicker -> freeze 100% of the time by trying to create a new character.

Today's Patch seems to work. I was able to undock, warp through gates and back with no game freeze issues. The game graphic settings I left as is, since some report altering them did not improve the situation. Whatever CCP did with today's Patch worked, though I am still curious to know what last week's (Feb. 4, 2014) Patch did to screw with the MAC version of EVE.

Would you mind posting what system you are running, as of todays patch hasn't fixed anything on my side...

Patch doesn't work with graphics reset to default. I just lost a ship and a drone because it froze up.

Mac Air
OSX 10.9.1
2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1064MHz DDR3
NVidia GeForce 320M

Even with the graphics set low, the system still freezes up, just not as often.

The early 2013 MacBook Pro hasn't had any of the problems mentioned here. The game would crash in the beginning but after someone mentioned turning off voice chat (which I did) the crashing stopped. I've been playing flawlessly for weeks now regardless of patches.

I hadn't turned off the voice capability, So turned that off, and changed everything from High to Medium. If the option was high or low, I kept it high. Hoping this helps

Downloaded the patch just now and there is no change whatsoever.

I run the eve launcher, login and enter the program. It begins to load the hanger and freezes. I cannot force quit, I must turn off my entire computer.

My original problem, as I stated, was that after a short period of gameplay everything would "lock up." By lock up, I mean that i could not warp, dock, turn on modules, lock items, chat, etc. I could still spin the camera, move the mouse over items and have the cursor change, and sometimes even open up boxes (character screens, mail) but the boxes would never load, they would simply open up with no content within them. I was sometimes able to force quit the application when I had this problem, other times I would have to turn off my computer.

After I followed the eve support ticket's instruction, also stated above, the client now simply freezes upon opening the game with no ability to force quit.

Just wanted to clarify my specific issue that I believe others here also have. I have never received a black screen. When my client freezes, the graphics stay up, they just do not progress.

I run version 10.7.5 of Mac OS X from a MacBook Air. Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB.
