While I support adding some of the chaos of Eve to SC, it just isn't going to happen. SC is being designed along the WoW model of not letting anything bad happen to the special snowflakes. It appears to be a space carebear paradise where miners will be free to AFK/bot mine. It will also have WiS. I'm sure many Eve players will give it a try. I think that many of the hardcore Eve carebears will love it. They will quit Eve and go play SC. In a few months, they will be bored of SC's themepark and quit that too. If we're all lucky they will come back to Eve after realizing what made it special to them. They might even comeback as "industrialists" and "pvpers" instead of as carebears.

"The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in defense. The sword is more important than the shield and skill is more important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is supplemental."

In other words , SWTOR and Star Trek Online (STO) all over again. STO specifically is everything 'they' say they want, walking around on/in things, no non-consensual pvp, no real losing stuff when you 'die', "griefers banned for life on the 1st offense" (or even thinking about the 1st offense lol) and so on. Loudly did some leave for a 'better game', quietly did they slink back when they came to realize that they only;y thought they wanted to be super safe and away from the 'griefers', because those griefers and the dangers of EVE give their game play meaning.....

Deep down they are all like thought you know. Dinsdale (for example) would be nothing without the goons and the even nulluminati economic RMT cartels.

The bold part has never happened and will never happen lol. Bears gonna Bear. EVE survives because it exposes players to the raw (and sometimes nasty) reality of human interaction and competition.

The makers of SC aren't going to allow that to happen (and it's not a bad choice IMO, not every game has to do the same things). I gave them money and will play it because I loved wing commander, but it won't be anything like EVE.

I loved Privateer and hope this goes in the direction of sandbox Privateer, Wing Commander, etc, without concern over profits/mass market, which is supposedly the argument for going to players for money in the first place. I've long stated the case for a player funded game well before this whole SC started, so I still have some hope. Though I find it funny that you can send $10k or more and still not have a single share, just some shiny in game assets.

Even if this does turn out to be some silly themepark, I was reading that you can discover new gates/systems and name them as well as sell the coordinates to other players...

Just being able to name a gate such things as "Eve Gate," The Mittani Gate," etc may well be worth trying it out...

Plus, it'll be a new market with lots of people who have not yet experienced all the joys we have in the Eve market.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

What are you going to do if SC will be a massive success?

As for miner bumping in SC - there is collision damage and if SC devs have even a bit of common sense they'll allow to attack bumping ships in secure zones. I'm so going to answer miners' distress calls in my free-to-pop LTI ships! \o/

P.S. Malcolm Shinhwa is correct - SC is going to be carebear-only game like Star Trek Online but with better graphics. CIG want money and PvP will scare away 3/4 customers.

I have noticed this as well. There seems to be a crapton of immersion breaking invisible walls in the game design.

To anyone who is genuinely interested in up and coming sandbox experience, I recommend The Repopulation. It's creator has cited numerous design influences to Ultima Online (all praise be) and Star Wars Galaxies (pre ruined version), as well as our own EVE Online.

To me, it shows considerable promise.

Oh, don't forget bounties... the SC guys have the impression that having a huge bounty will keep players they don't like from playing.

Hey like I said...

someone's gotta start a SC bank, an investment fund, etc...

Should we take bets on how many corps Psychotic Monk gets into within a year or 2?

Just for fun guys, every time you do something naughty in SC, please say "welcome to Eve."

Huh, CCP should pay you guys, every time a different scifi space MMO pops up, you guys do your best to make the game the mother of all rage-quits. that way you win, we win, EVE wins, and those poor deprived players get a taste of the game they are missing.

All in all it sounds like your doing a community service for SC.

omg, erotica1 made a good thread.

Actually, two good theads. Shocked

I'm jealous of the black and white eve avatar you have over there. You guys are all lookin' rather classy.

I'm not so sure how I feel about this "pvp slider" and "you won't be able to tell npcs from players" and "instancing" and "matchmaking." Also, permanent ship insurance for early investors is troublesome.

They also have this whole notion that miners will have guns and that people in combat ships will sit around babysitting them. It could be a case of serious naivete.

I too am an early backer of SC. Its how I first found out about Eve. I'll probably play SC when it is finally released, but only for a bit. Like I played SWTOR and GW2... see all the pretty sights, then get bored and quit.

I wish I'd learned about Eve first, would have saved the money.

To be fair, I do think they are entitled to a release date, despite some threads saying otherwise. As tempting as it is to spend up to $10,000 or more so that I could get some in game ships and blueprints, I think I'll wait and see what I can acquire via game mechanics if and when this thing comes out.

Am I the only one who enjoys the fact that I have roughly a dozen video games on my machine at a time? I want to play EVE, and Elite, and SC and BL2, and a ton of other games. I play whatever I am in the mood for. Hell sometimes I spend 4 hours in Pyfa alone. Why can't they all exist, be different *AND* good?

Screw all you guys trying to make SC into EVE 2.0. And screw all you guys who are trying to make EVE into WoW.

Let EVE be EVE and let SC be SC.

I play whatever strikes my fancy at any given time. I am notorious for real life ganking me out of playing EVE for a while at a time. I wanted to play X-Rebirth, but it quite frankly sucked.

If SC ever comes out, I'll play that too. But the kind of player that I am doesn't really change based on what game I play. I behaved much the same when I played UO, too.

And that's what I guess is part of all of this. People who have no place except EVE want to be welcome in more places. And Star Citizen seems as though it curtails a large part of that kind of experience, and they want to weigh in and say "hey, we have things we want too".

It's just a matter of putting the point of view out there. Because frankly, their community is a flippin' echo chamber right now.

You are being too kind.

I pre-purchased X:R, and when I finally got it delivered, it was a totally unplayable bugfest. I too wanted to like it, but I couldn't get over the fact that it was a poorly made console game that was ported to PC. It took many patches and many restarts of the campaign before I could even get halfway through without a major bug breaking it. Several times I found myself hunting through the .xml files to bypass one broken mechanic after another. I haven't played it for quite awhile now... I keep seeing patchnotes come through on my notifications..so hopefully one day when Im bored, ill give it another try and itll work.

Until then, Ill keep playing Eve, even though its clearly dead, and regret the time I cheated on it with the semi-console flopfest that killed it.
