I've had the same issue, and will at the least expect some compensation... I mean, it's not as if the currency is "real". Anyway, it would make all us EvE'ers feel a whole lot better.

Personally, I'd like 20 days of instant skilling. Just pick a skill, and skill up 20 days... Sounds good to me... In Eve, how you use time is worth a whole hell of a lot more than just pure PLEX.Idea

If I receive PLEX for this issue, I'll be forced to start some kind of protest... Twisted

I'd personally want a PLEX for this issue to make up my time of not making ISK or anything which I planned to do.

Game time for 10 days or what ever just won't make it for me since I wasn't able to access EVE at all.

Anyhow lets just hope this patch tomorrow fixes it... if it doesn't it would be day 7...

Also getting black screen at login.

Model Name: Mac Pro
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Memory: 16 GB
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120

Even though the specs do not meet minimum requirements, I have been playing with no issues the last 2 years. Issues have arisen after the last few patches.

Before the latest patch I was getting to the character selection screen before my mac would lock up. After the most recent patch my mac goes directly to a black screen and locks up.

The following lines are from the system log that have errors in the line.

We have not had any luck in reproing this, but we have a patch going out tomorrow where we have at least an attempted fix.

I've gone through all changes to the graphics engine that went out in the patch that seems to have triggered the black screen on character select, and we're basically reverting those changes when running on a Mac. We're grasping at straws here, but I feel we have to try something.

It really shouldn't but if it does come to it I have a couple macs that are both having the same issue, I'll mail one out to CCP so you all can see the issue or anything else like screen sharing ect. :P until then I'll just log in on my iMac at work until this is all panned out.

THANK YOU FOR WORKING ON THIS Snorlax!

Reverting should work. My machine and many others like it were running fine before the February 4 patch.
Thanks, I sincerely appreciate your help and attention to our plight.

Cheers. Sounds like a good idea given you've had no luck reproducing the same issue. Fingers crossed for tomorrow :-)

This might be a silly question. But have you tried to repro this in windowed mode instead of full screen? Although the predominate error message that scrolls by is
Quote:
2/10/14 9:02:46.000 PM kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error
, one of the errors that rolled by my log screen was,
Quote:
2/10/14 9:02:46.598 PM Console[504]: setPresentationOptions called with NSApplicationPresentationFullScreen when there is no visible fullscreen window; this call will be ignored.
and made me think that perhaps that all of us that are experiencing this are running eve in windowed mode? Just a guess.

...and now after leaving eve minimized for about 15 minutes, I maximize the application and the character selection screen has resolved and I can log in. Odd.

because full windowed mode crashes the computer, hence no error log.

This bug doesn't really make sense at all..... I have 2 accounts which are running fine, and one which I can not pass the char selection screen. Sometimes I get lucky, and when I time it right, I can enter the Esc menu, exit it again and click randomly into the screen where my chars should be and it logs me in, fine without any issue, sometimes it completely freezes as soon as I should see the char selection screen.... Completely random, no pattern.....

By any chance, did u change anything on the visualization or graphics of the character models? BTW, U have a Cider Client log in a bug report from me, when I was able to bypass the char selection black screen.

Window Mode, all resolutions checked, also full screen mode, even without using the client but directly the Cider in Full screen, still the same issue.

I know, this doesn't make any sense at all, which is why this is proving so difficult to fix. There were really no relevant changes that triggered this. We'll see how things are after today's patch, and I'll keep monitoring bug reports and the forums for info from you guys.

Sorry, something went wrong in prepping the patch, it will be delayed until tomorrow. I'm hoping to get the build out on a test server today so we can at least see if the code change helps - check back later for details.

Hello all,

maybe my experience will help.

I am running EVE Multibox (I mean more than one client simultaneously) on my Mac Mini Late 2009 upgraded with SSD disk and 8GB RAM.
My EVE Client is set to lowest graphics in windowed app (no fullscreen)

I have client data cloned to multiple starting icons (done with EVE Clone Maker - https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients#Using_the_EVE_Clonemaker; link to forum - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=17208)) so I am starting directly to login screen (no launcher)

I am experiencing a black window after entering my login credentials and system is not responding for few second.

To complete login I have to click on dark screen in place where is usually character I want to play (1st third from left if I want to play with my last-played character) and then login continues to login normally, usually with no other graphical problems.

Normal start (no clicking on black screen) is taking about 40 minutes.
---
Updating EVE:
For update I have to use normal launcher for downloading the necessary data.

Today I was not able to download the data and launcher was freezing.

Deleting the cache for EVE helped me:
1.) open Package Content (right click) of your EVE Online client in Applications
2.) go to Content -> Resources -> cache
3.) delete content of this folder
4.) start launcher
5.) start EVE via cloned app

Ping me in game if you will need more details :-)

Except multi client, that's how I play since yesterday : bypassing launcher, setting turned to window mode, and graphic settings optimized for memory. Then, as you say, I have black screen flickering for few seconds, sometimes I have to select character without seing them and then everything works correctly.

I've just seen there's a new patch... I'm going to try it at once Blink

Contrary to CCP Snorlax's post above, I too noticed a new 'Mac patch' this morning when I started the EVE launcher. Unfortunately it didn't solve the issue for me in the slightest :/

I'm having the exact same problem on my Macbook. This started about 2 weeks ago.

I can't quit the game, turn on or off modules, warp, etc. I have to force quit EVE or I have to shut my computer down.

I have already reinstalled the game, it may be worse now than ever. I can't even go 5 minutes of gameplay without this happening.

@ Dark Eirlys: There is a problem with opening the map in stations crashing the client since dec2012 (yes 2012!). Now they are at least working on the "new" bugs, give them some time. Maybe they will come up with a solution that keeps eve playable for at least another month (or year) or so. That would be worth the wait, wouldn't it?

Ok, downloaded the patch this morning and instead of a black screen I got to the character select screen. During the startup process my monitor was flickering then became stable. Clicked on my character and in about 8 seconds an error message popped up on my screen—never seen an error message popup like this before—which said:

unhandled page fault on read access 0x00000000
at address 0x8f07c032
Do you wish to debug?

I clicked yes and EVE launcher quits but my machine does not lockup. The following is the system log at the point the debugger starts up:

Just a wild guess but is it possible that maybe an update with Java or Flash Player is contributing in this issue since not all MACs are being affected? Not everyone always updates their version Flash or Java whenever a new version is available…

Day 8 it seems it will be Sad

I'm really hoping that we recieve a PLEX for this issue instead of just game time? Because It's been 7 entire days of not being able to fly in EVE at all when I could have been, no ISK to make no nothing because of constant Flicker crashes in space.

At least CCP is working on it Blink
