Any chance to "grep" the chat in the client?

that is, set up a filter in the chat interface to only show comments with given keywords or phrases?

Been using grep a lot while working on some Linux systems lately and thought this would be nice for the chat too. Not all of the chatter in local I'm concerned with, but it would be nice to let it take in any communications pertaining to particular matters of concern.

It would also be great for live events.

It is quite sad your request will likely fall on deaf ears. I love the idea, but getting CCP to do things that make sense to players often is a waste of time. On the other hand, there is a way to almost do what you want. For contacts that spam orotherwise, you can right-click and block, allowing you to only see what you want.

I guess the other option is park an alt in system for the day. Find the game chat logs (...\EVE\logs). Open the local chat in Notepad and use Edit> Find.

Something like this?

I apparently have no idea what I'm doing.

Yeah I was thinking of that. But I'm thinking of an "active" filter while actually playing the game.

I'm certain that a filter for local could be implemented solely in the client, since it's just a matter of controlling what local displays in the client chat.

The best case would be to get filter functionality like we see in Wireshark where we could filter by person, color of the message (good for live events since actors use a specific color) or faction, corp, etc.

I agree, reading local is an unreasonable burden on those that wish to read local.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

Just looking to filter out the aspergers. That's all.

12 seconds later the filters will be used to create a perfect alarm system to warn of any hostiles in local instantly.

Its been done before.

There's an easier way: Blocking. Quick, uncomplicated and 100% success rate that holds for the rest of your EVE career. You need to block new chars every now and then, but that's easily manageable, and after a couple hundreds of chars blocked, locals are a lot quieter and a lot better legible.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.
