Hiya!

I just started EVE yesternight, & I am in love with it so far! What a Sci-Fi dream come true. Flying thru space & exploring, maybe blast some bad guys along the way. The tutorial helped a lot, I learned so much & I was able to get started strong & not have to rely on waiting on questions & stuff.

I'm still on the 14 Day Trial, so we'll see how it pans out. In the mean time, I am wondering!

• Is there any\will be there any planetary\space station exploration & areas to go on foot & so on?

• Where are all de Aliens? :0

• How addictive is this game? <.< because I've gotten hooked to it very quickly already, curious to know how the community plays it xD

No other-worldly life or planetary\space station\ship areas is not necessarily a game-breaker for me, but with a game like this I'd think it would be a huge asset to it. So we shall see! I'm planning on running the trial dry before I decide to buy or not.

Currently you can't really leave your ship expect to enter captains quarter's which is one room.
However you can take a look at Dust if you have a ps3. Dust is linked to EVE and is a FPS that takes place on the planet's.

EVE is addictive but not like other games where you have to log on every day. The skill Que allows you to take frequent breaks to play something else for a while.

And welcome to EVE Big smile

Unknown. The last time the DEV's tried to introduce players walking around inside a station they massively botched it in a number of ways.

Eventually they might get around to it... once they figure out what kind of gameplay that...

- makes it not a separate game within a game.
- makes it hold true to the principles of EVE (e.g. "no one is safe... ever," "your actions will always be in competition/conflict with others," "it doesn't take away from other aspects of the game" etc).
- has actual content or tools for content.
- optimizes it so that computers don't melt.

This is a human "story"... about how humans engage with other humans for whatever reasons they can think up. Introducing aliens just devolves into an "us or them" kind of thing.

That depends.

EVE has more in common with Real Time Strategy games than First Person Shooters or Role Playing Games. The choices you make (both as a player and with your character) have more tactical benefits and consequences than anything else.

So if you enjoy building relationships with others, outsmarting those who wish you harm, using/bending mechanics to your advantage, and carving a niche for yourself despite what others may do... you may go far in EVE no matter what specialty you wish to go into.

If you are more of the "Bushido" style player, want to be left alone to do your own thing, and/or think that power means having the best ships/modifications/weapons, most wealth, and/or highest level skills... you may be in for a rough time.

edit: I like what one guy said about EVE...

"You, the new player, are an adorable golden haired child. You are released, alone but with a map, into a large wilderness park teeming with tens of thousands of rapacious pedophiles. If you are cunning, tenacious and lucky, you can eventually become one of the pedophiles."
~Malcanis

edit 2: Here's another way to look at EVE... it's pre-Trammel Ultima Online in space.

1. The closest you can get to that are:

A. Your private captain's quarters. Which is kind of "useless" in terms of that it's only you in there and any features in there can also be accessed from the station/NEOCOM menus.

B. Get a Playstation3 and download DUST514. It's a FPS made by CCP that is connected to the same server as EVE is.

2. We are all aliens. Our ancestors are from a distant solar system that houses a planet called Earth.

3. Well, 3 years in game, with almost no breaks other then being away for a holiday or busy with work...NOT addictive at all.Evil

Totally depends on you.
There's no grind (unless you want/need to grind the isk for the next plex) it's only down to your plan.

The skill queue (and tools like like evemon) means that you don't have to even log in unless you want to or need to for the next step on you plan to rule the universe.

So 5 years down the pipe, do I find it addictive? Absolutely not.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Yet. 5 years later you are still playing the same game. Which means it is addictive in some sort of way, a good way though as you arent forced upon anything.

Congrats... meat. You have taken the first step into the last MMO game you will ever play. Twisted

I will now show you some tools that will give you an edge in surviving our "cold, dark, and harsh universe."

EFT (EVE Fitting Tool): (free program) It allows you to fit any ship in the game to your heart's desire without having to spend ISK in-game and use trial and error to get a result. You can even upload your character's skill using the API system (there is a link buried in the program that will lead you through the process).
Do note that fitting a ship and flying it are two different things. People who make "pretty ship stats" and declare how awesome they are (see: "EFT warriors") are generally frowned upon because there are a plethora of tactics to render various stats moot.

Pyfa (Python Fitting Assistant): (free program) Does the same thing as EFT but offers some other features. It's generally compatible with computers that EFT has trouble with.

EVE-Central: (website) Want to know how much some ships and equipment are but don't want to fly all the way to a market hub to find out? This is your first stop.
NOTE: the market can change very rapidly and this site has a bit of a delay to it. So take the prices listed on it with a grain of salt.

Overview Settings: (picture) If you want to get into PvP... DO THIS FIRST! Your veteran pals will appreciate not having to deal with Friendly Fire incidents.

EVE-Uni Visual Effects Library: (website) Helps in identifying what's going on around you.

EVE-kill: (website) Want to see how many PvP kills/deaths you have tallied up? Want to see what kinds of kills/deaths a friendly or hostile has scored? How about what kinds of ships people fly? This is one place to go to.

Battleclinic: (website) Same as EVE-kill but with a chunkier layout and a few more features.
NOTE: be VERY cautious about ship layouts you try from the site's "Fittings" section. People who frequent this site tend to be "EFT warriors" (see above).

Zkillboard: (website) Same as EVE-kill but a little more reliable (see: doesn't 404 as often).

EVEboard - (website) Is a corporation you want to join asking for your information? Or do you just want to stare at your character's stats and formulate plans in your head on what skills you want to focus on next? This site's easy to read layout will help with both. Just upload your API key into it (there are links there that will help you).

EVE Who: (website) Want to know who's who? Start your intel gathering here.

xD nifty tools, thanks!! My goal for this game - pilot a Leviathan! :D I caught a lucky break with some loot I found the other day & sold it for about 6.6 million ISK. Nice little boost for the start x)

Euhhhhhhhhhh... I really hate to shoot down your goal... but Titans (and supercapitals in general) are often referred to as "flying coffins" for a reason.

You can't use them in high-sec... or dock in a station... use stargates... move to another system without assistance... or even build one unless you have claimed a system out in 0.0 to -1.0 space. The hull alone is worth about 40 to 80 billion ISK.
Plus, they can't really defend themselves against ships smaller than a battleship (they are "capital killers").

I recommend you focus on [much] smaller goals.

For example; Frigates are the basis of all activities in EVE. Mastering them opens up options in various forms of warfare and exploration. From there, you have destroyers ("frigate killers")... cruisers ("bread and butter" ships)... battlecruisers (slower cruisers with more firepower and defensive options)... to battleships (a slow moving "wrecking ball" with the right support behind it).

However, the choice is always yours. Just know that all options are available to you from the start, but...

- some options will be better suited for certain tasks than others.
- specialization is rewarded in the long run.

Find what is fun for YOU.

This.

Titans specifically are only used for 2 main things:

1. Bridge monkeys. So you sit in a POS, bridge a fleet and that's it. Fleet gets all the fun, you play boring game that is called "watch the POS and don't drift out of it's forcefield".

2. Great bait for glorious fights (also known as "Oops, that was the jump button, not the bridge button").

Not to mention, the Levy is a shield ship in an armor man's world.

Haha they are just so pretty xD you guys bring up some good points tho.

I learned a TON from the tutorial tho, I can't imagine trying to start this game without it. I managed to buy some nice frigates with it, & currently I have a fully doctored up Destroyer in my collection! Doing great so far, I love the way this game handles. Seems very professional x)

Don't listen to the naysayers! Stick to your dreams :)

To get into a Leviathan, you'll need to be part of a large alliance and build some rapport with the leadership to the point where, when they ask for titan pilots and you volunteer, they will feel safe trusting you with the 60B ISK worth of alliance asset.

So skills training, ship fitting training and all other in game expertise aside, the one thing you need to focus on if you wish to fly a Leviathan, is get recruited by a null sec alliance who will be around long enough to build a titan and promote you into the role of flying one. You're looking at about four years of focussed training to get into one, another couple of years to fly it properly.

Or once you have a place in an alliance, you can just turn around and buy a titan pilot from the Character Bazaar. This will help you skip the 7 years of training required.

New question!

Is there a way you can check for a cenus of the larger ships? Like for a crew count & all that? I can't imagine one person is really piloting a Battleship or something like that all by their lonesome.

Background has it that they do have a crew. If you browse abit, I'm sure you'll find the exact numbers per ship.

As for me? It my pod in the ship and thats it. No crew at all. Nobody comes onto MY battleship. Certainly not some random non-capsuleer NPC who probably hasn't even finished the tutorials.
