What happened to the stuff Incarna was supposed to bring?

My impression was it was less about WiS than about lack of fixes for suck chest wound class of bugs, and outrage against pay to win golden bullets. Most players won't mind walking in station if didn't impact development of other aspects of the game. Nor do they object to pay for barbie's dress up. What happened is CCP work up to an enraged player base who didn't care about WiS, but cared about flying in space. They adjusted development resources to fill what the players actually want rather than walking in station.

Former forum cheerleader CCP, now just a grumpy small portion of the community.

Not all of it is dust !!

My point is they were near to some form of release of station walking that would have allowed us to stretch our legs beyond the quarters.

Agreed not fully functioning but certainly alpha/beta finished. The station interiors do exist but were abandoned

That footage was released 6 or more years ago. It was built using the Unreal Engine, a project that was ultimately dropped because CCP wanted to build their own CARBON engine, which Eve now runs on. I am afraid that footage is more or less irrelevant now except for people to be pissed that CCP didn't just use the original Unreal Engine game play.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but people have known about that stuff for some time. The latest in station footage to get released was leaked from a demo of the very early gameplay of the Exploration Prototype, from two years or so ago. Looked great, but it was built in Unity and would need to be remade from scratch using CARBON (as far as I am aware).

Also Effect One (Rhes alt?), my Torfi quote trumps your Rise quote;

CCP Rise's opinion voiced during his reddit IamA was reasonable, but just because the focus is mainly on the spaceship game does not mean that nobody here has an interest to make meaningful Avatar gameplay within the EVE universe happen. (-:

Interesting thanks ! :)

Those quotes are meaningless while there isn't a single developer working on WiS nonsense. They can envision or "have an interest" in whatever they want but as long as there's nobody actually writing code for additional WiS stuff it's all just pandering to delusional roleplayers.

EVE is a game about spaceships and there's an enormous amount of work to do on the in-space gameplay before players (or developers) are ready to sacrifice it for a totally new type of gameplay - CCP Rise

you know, I have this fond fantasy that maybe there'll be a presentation at Fanfest where they roll out this working demo of EoF content complete with avatar combat and cool corporate-espionage based gameplay and stuff, and the dev presenting it will take a moment to say "Oh, and this goes out to that tireless forum warrior Rhes"

At which point they just raise a middle finger towards the stream camera and everybody starts cheering.

I love the aesthetics of the Captains Quarters, of having your character in a real environment. All the character creation stuff is pretty moot without it- it hardly gets shown off. But people are absolutely right, it's auxiliary to a game that's about spaceships, CCP can't dedicate resources to developing it for EVE.

That's why I was excited for WoD- it looks like they took what they had in EVE and ran with it, trying to make a game where all that stuff matters more and they can justify developing it for that game's sake.

So when I asked if they'd thought about using that to feed back improvements to EVE and kept the two compatible, I was very disappointed to learn that WoD had forked away from EVE and there wasn't any plans to use it a a sly way to improve EVE's character stuff off the back of it. Missed a trick there, CCP.

Are you sure about that? If you're talking about the FF2008 “vertical slice”, it certainly didn't look or feel anything like UE.

Another thread. Big smile

I got about two pages in and saw all the same misconceptions, old arguments and usual suspects. Was left banging my head against the door in my Captain's Quarters afterwards.

But heh, in any event it's lovely to see a constant stream of threads asking about, or showing a desire for, WiS. Cool

Have fun Rhes, etc.

Maybe you just need to lower your fantasy-standards, Mr Stitcher.

CCP has said that they want to do something more with avatars. It's just a matter of resources and when.

Don't hold your breath though.

I seem to vaguely recall hearing it was made with Unreal as well, but I couldn't find you a reference. No idea where I heard that.

Sez you.

Back up your assertions with numbers or that's all it is an assertion.

You might not want WIS but a lot of people, including me,do. I was looking forward to having another way of interacting with the game and other players. Personally I find it difficult to relate to a talking spaceship and would much prefer to talk face to face with a human being.

CCP says they want to do everything.

Will they do everything?

No. They won't.

I agree it's just a matter of time before we have avatar content, it's inevitable.

I love your hopefulness, but the ultimate destruction of our universe is also inevitable. But it might take hundreds of billions or years. CCP have been saying they will do it for almost a year longer than I have been playing. If we have to wait another 6 years, that might as well be never as far as most of us are concerned.

Too true, but I think that if we show that a significant proportion of the players base wants it and repeatedly post our support for it then I think it will come sooner rather than later. Also the potential to expand game play, deepen immersion and increase the number of subscribers is limitless.
