why is there no drone tracking skill? Been using turrets for a while and I though I would give drones a go, but they are lacking in some skills that would make them a good primary weapon system.

A combat drone flies to its own optimal, has a built in intelligence for that.
When it gets there, almost every target it has will be the same size or bigger.
Tracking isn't really an issue if *the drone can stay in optimal*.

There are drone modules that improve tracking. Mostly used on Sentries I suppose. (Though they apply to combat drones as well)
There are tracking computers and tracking scripts as well.

Yeah, drone tracking is only really relevant for sentries, which are really their own subspecies of weapons system. By that point you're looking at hulls that give tracking bonuses and/or Omnidirectional Tracking Links with tracking scripts.

What? Drones orbit their target at a pretty good velocity, and the damage amount they inflict varies per shot, I have also noticed much better applied DPS when using a omni tracking link for my drones. tracking speed increase most definitely helps

Light and medium drones are considered small weapons systems and heavy drones medium (for purposes of scan resolution), which means that they track anything they can keep up with pretty well except for heavy drones shooting destroyers and smaller.

Remember that the tracking formula does not compare a drone's tracking to the target's angular velocity, it instead compares your drone's Tracking/Scan Res to the target's Angular/SigRad, and the heavy drones having a scan res that's only 30% of the scan res of sentries/battleship weapons makes a HUGE difference here.

Don't look at the variance in damage (all weapon systems have this, even in 100% chance to hit situations like a stationary Talos shooting a stationary structure within optimal). Look at the frequency of misses. Ogre IIs do miss, but not often against cruisers and up.
