CCP asked, "why don't we have more forum activity?" Here's why.

Wait..... I thought you said you couldn't moderate in a thread you were actively involved in....

I received instructions indicating the opposite for flagrant rule-breaking, especially if other mods are not around or otherwise unavailable.

Removed more personal attacks and subsequent quoting posts. Can we keep it civil please?

Good to know. Does that mean we get to hear more from you in the future beyond the L word for "reasons"?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

That is spot on.

Exactly...

I NEVER share fitting in the forums or in game. All you get is abuse. I knew it was time to stop when the most vocal fewl about my Tengu fit was the guy I got it from...

We (CCL) do try to participate in discussions where we can maintain neutrality either via cold hard facts, basic advice, or other non-opinionated stuff. It keeps us from going nuts, and helps reduce the perception that we're unfeeling power-hungry mega-nerds who hate fun.

Doing it is actually part of the CCL duties, which can be paraphrased as "oversee and communicate with the (primarily forum) Eve community on behalf of the CCP Community Team". Moderation is only part of that, but too often is the only thing we have time for. Sad

Can anybody summarize the thread so far? If do it myself but anytime I put honest work and analysis into a post is made pointless either by being locked or spammed with inane irrelevance till is of the current page :)

Can we stop talking about the mods for a bit and get back to work?

The TLDR:

General Discussion is bad because reasons and people are debating its removal because the atmosphere has been deemed unfriendly and lacks kitten pictures and reasons. People generally want more productive forums, and are wanting other less used subforums to be condensed into more useful subforums, but people don't like subforums anyways. Then an ISD got involved but at the time couldn't moderate the thread so it went all over the place. Then another ISD came and fixed it, and new powers were granted to the original ISD so now the thread can get back on topic, and then you showed up.

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread, already in progress.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Oh come on, it's only 6 pages. Here:

  • ISD are terrible
  • Too many trolls
  • Too many bittervets or generally toxic people
  • ISD are truly quite awful
  • Too hard to find info / find the right place to post, so GD becomes a crucible of anything and everything
  • Possible solution: Remove GD?
  • Possible solution: Restructure subforums? Make them more prominent?
  • There's a bad duality between "lots of exposure but lots of bad content in GD" and "little exposure and little but good content in specific subforums" and enforcing subforums is a touchy topic
  • Disallowing NPC corp alts in CAOD is bad
  • CCP need to post and be involved more
  • ISD are just plain bad, biased, and everything else
  • Eve forums are bad because eve players are bad
  • Software behind Eve forums is awful and bug-ridden
  • Forums are bad because some people don't like living up to their words (NPC corp alts), and there's weirdness going on with the demographics of the forum
  • ISD are pretty much the worst thing ever
  • Forums are bad because constructive criticism is hard
  • Moderators should be paid employees instead of volunteers
  • More discussion of removing GD or restructuring the forum
  • ISD Ezwal (member of the incorrigibly horrible ISD) cleaned things up, including a good bit of discussion of moderation
  • Some talk about despicable ISD
  • Muestereate makes an appearance

Ed: I might have forgotten to mention that ISD are pretty much the reason Eve is dying. Yup. X

1) Too many subforums. See F&I and Assembly Hall as examples of inane redundancy.

2) Threads are continuously derailed by the same NPC alts.

3) The forum software is buggy, buggy, buggy. Somebody posts a thread, the thread shows up but the OP is gone. Somebody makes a reply to a thread and their post never shows up and gets eaten.

4) Long list of redundant or unnecessary rules. Allow KMs to be posted if they're pertinent to a given discussion - if it leads to flaming/trolling, deal with the offending posts, not the apparent trigger. Oh and rule #1 shouldn't even exist as it is enforced by a hard-coded restriction. I won't touch on my reservations about the way the rules are executed, just the rules themselves.

5) Any thread posted in any forum spawns dozens of 1-3 word, no-content meme replies (i.e. "nullbear tears LOL" or "HTFU") that don't contribute to the discussion and often attack the poster. This is nominally against the rules but it somehow goes unenforced. Seriously, nuke that garbage and discussions will flow a lot better. See #2.

Its not the first time I was here. It just looks like it. :) The NSA masquerading as ISD (reports that they are goons are still unsubstantiated) performed a man in the middle attack through an encrypted https connection ( who else could do that ) and altered my posts to look worthy of deletion effectively neutralizing my brain. The other ISD, not aware of the secret mission of the other to devalue my input then swung the ax thinking it was his own idea thereby making me invisible until now.

The head guy recruiting for ISD has bias in his recruitment process. EVE allows for a variety of gameplay yet prevents a group of people from taking part in forum moderation. That biases the moderation and is hampering the forum use. That bias doesn't make sense either because there are most certainly rules preventing people from going nuts with the minute power awarded to moderators.

I think if that bias were removed and the "bad guys" of EVE were given a voice in moderation it'd be a better forum.

However that doesn't mean EVE-O has to become a horrible abomination like kugu.

While his post was probably worded poorly, I don't imagine that ISD have any particular bias against people who engage in scamming. But that doesn't mean that beancounter jaynara or w/e has any business near the forum mod buttons.

I don't mean that guy should be on the team just that they shouldn't discriminate against people who decide to do morally ambiguous professions like scamming. If it was a bad post it'd be nice if the ISD would let us know they don't discriminate based on that.

I'm going to take this as a tentative "we don't do that" but, it would still be nice for the head recruiting guy to let us know.

ISD LackofFaith wrote:
I'm not entirely sure what the rules for recruitment are, but if ISD Eshtir thinks someone is not qualified, that's a pretty good indication of crossing a line. Still, the line is definitely not "you must have a completely spotless record and always been a model citizen of Eve". I should know. Pirate At any rate, ISDs do not come under the same super-tight restrictions on gameplay with their main characters that CCP employees do.

This post was loving crafted by a member of the Official GoonWaffe recruitment team. Improve the forums, support this idea: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&find=unread&t=345133

I think these forums are better designed than the old ones... but it lacks personality. Specifically, YOUR personality. I always liked looking at pods cool graphic tags at the end of their posts. There were some really cool ones. I feel like CCP has tried to make the forums too rigid and conformal. You used to be able to talk about anything. Now things get locked all the time or moved that probably shouldn't. Loosen it up and let people have their fun, I say. This is a game after all. Internet spaceships may be serious business, but shiptosting is much less so. GD in particular... treat it like a filter for anything. Let people post anything. You want specifics there's a sub-forum for that... you make GD too rigid and people just stop posting.

That's my 2isk anyway...
