After reading all the comments, I've decided to roll with this:

[Vargur, Vargur lvl4]

Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Damage Control II

Core C-Type 100MN Microwarpdrive
Large Micro Jump Drive
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Pithum C-Type Medium Shield Booster
Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script
Tracking Computer II, Optimal Range Script

800mm Repeating Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion L
800mm Repeating Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion L
800mm Repeating Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion L
800mm Repeating Cannon II, Republic Fleet Fusion L
Small Tractor Beam II
Small Tractor Beam II
Small Tractor Beam II
Bastion Module I

Large Projectile Burst Aerator II
Large Hyperspatial Velocity Optimizer II

Hobgoblin II x5
Salvage Drone I x5
Hobgoblin II x5

I'll try ambit or warp speed rig, each for a week to see which feels more useful, though i suspect the latter will win.

One last question, is this fit unreasonably blinged for anyone attempting to gank for profit ?

EVE is what happens when the rule of law does not apply and Darwinism is allowed to run freely.

Not even close IMO.

Since my first post I've actually bought a vargur myself and started doing missions with it. I have the exact same fit except with a pith XL booster, faction gyros, and a CCC rig. In bastion, the XL booster gets me like a quarter of full shield hp, so i can actually cruise around, save cap, and get down to 25% shields, then boost to full in a few seconds. The biggest issue I have is that if I overboost early in a mission, I have to spend a little bit more time in bastion than necessary. Better piloting will handle some of it, but I'm definitely getting use out of the CCC rig, as more cap = more mobility and less time in bastion. That said, having 2 tracking computers and one TE is pretty fantastic, as you can maintain over a 70km falloff in or out of bastion, and you can boost yourself to very high tracking without making any real sacrifices. An ambit rig is unnecessary with two tracking computers. Regarding the capacitor issue (which isn't much of an issue at all) I still have room to upgrade to a better booster and a better mwd without putting myself in serious gank danger.

2,500 hp boosts every 3 seconds is fun. I would be interested to see how the pihtum c-type does. I expect that since you can't convert cap to shields as fast you will be running the thing solid outside of bastion or maybe spend more time in bastion. Again, the two TC's help if you want to spend a lot of time in bastion.

I would kill for an extra 25m3 dronebay, so i can have salvagers, lights, and 2 sentries.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

After using my original vargur with X-L booster, i've realized the limiting factor has been mobility, of all things. I hardly ever boost as is so I'll report back on how the medium booster does in missions, though I suspect the MJD will provide the largest improvements in average performance.

As it is, i have around 30 min of perma boost so a CCC rig, if I want to be really lazy, should narrowly push it above cap stability.

Since the Pithum C-Type MSB can be effectively perma-boosted, it reduces the level of micromanagement needed (3 tractors, (un)locking targets/wrecks, checking ranges for MJDs, etc..) You just use bastion to handle the few missions with loads of DPS such as the AE bonus room.

Personally, I'm not sold on the MWD. The Vargur is painfully slow to accelerate under MWD, so few missions require speed, and with an MTU and salvage drones out, it just doesn't seem to provide a meaningful value over a MJD jump while forcing you to move away from your wreck ball.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

Some missions won't let you use MWD.

That info is very outdated. You can MWD in all missions now.

Nevermind then, had my mind on several scannable complexes that won't allow you.
