I'm not sure if its stumbling on verifying the installed client or the downloaded patch. All my suggestions were for a corrupted patch I guess.

So the real issue is that you lot run PCs, no that there's anything wrong with the launcher.

Since the patch way back mid November 2013 last year the game launcher always fails to update in our place and we have no option but to re download and re-install the game over and over again cause the game does not patch itself, or if it did it end up crashing.

You are doing things wrong.

It had nothing to do with Steam.

After thinking about this more, I see two main probable causes.

Either a localization / ISP issue.

OR

A software conflict.

As you have tried this on multiple OS and hardware setups, I am more inclined to go with localization / ISP.

Just for the sake of thoroughness, try setting your UAC (user account controls) to "Never notify me".

Eve will make you work a solid month all on your own for your first cookie. Then kick you in the nuts and take that cookie, and laugh at you for thinking you could have a cookie at all.

I've never had a single launcher problem in 8 years. (even through boot.ini and all the others)

I don't know whether i'm just lucky. Or your PCs are all weird.

What the hell do people do to their ****? I have never once had an issue with the launcher.

what i did couple days ago was log off before the server went down. That did soemthing bad, when i tried to log back in my launcher turned half black and froze, upon reloading the launcher it went into not responding mode. It remained broken in such an utterly inoperable state for a few days untill the client launched via the exefile pulled a launcher update patch which fixed the not responding issue.

So tell me, what did i do wrong? and how did i contact ccp via my exefile that i needed an update to fix my client, if i had puposefully broken it? doesnt makes sense to me, seems like one of the minipatches lately broke the launcher, and a few days later a fix was released.

Also the repair tool is rubbish, everytime something has gone wrong with soemthing eve related, the repair tool fails and returns an error. Always after it goes through the checking, and the downloading and the initializing and all that, it gets to the tail end, stops, breaks and delivers an error.

When the launcher is working though all seems fine and dandy. its just when it does break, its pretty spectacular

Nothing. It just stopped working after an update in september last year. I didn't do anything. Repair tool went mad with the same update. Eventually my 64 Bit Windows 7 was considered an unsupported 16 bit platform by the launcher.

While support tried to be helpful, I had to download a new client in the end to at least be able to login again via exefile.exe.

Three weeks later with another patch all problems were gone just as miraculously as they appeared.

The things I learned from this:

- CCP breaks the launcher every now and then for some folks.

- They do communicate **** about it and petitioning it is the only way to get any decent help. Issues & Workarounds is mostly helpless, though it's good to know you are not alone Twisted.

- They do react pretty fast to these petitions but they do not tell you what's going on.

While they usually are pretty communicative concerning game development in general, the launcher team seem to be Ghostcrawler fans.

Edit:

If the launcher fails, the repair tool usually is broken too. This is what I expeirenced myself and have observed for quite a few other players coming to the forums for help.

So it's always a good idea to download a fresh client every other patch just in case...

Remove standings and insurance.

Usernames wiped again today after patch.
Really, at this point I'm not even interested in an explanation.
Just let us know when you acknowledge/fix it. It's a bad launcher.

As soon as you have more than one character to do this on it gets reeeeeeally fiddly.

I'm not talking about it being hard, it's just annoying and you have to do it every time. Thousand papercuts, you know =p
