The Great Career Respect Thread

So something I've always wondered, where does this sense of elitism come from some players have? I've seen it cause more than 1, 2, 3, 500, 16000 seemingly random and 100% unconstructive posts here on the forum, ranging from that carebears are a leech that needs to be burned off all the way to anyone who engages in piracy should have their accounts banned.

Does anyone have a well formed, well argumented reason to hate one career path or the other? Or is it just the inherent douchery of man showing on the internet, considering one cannot get punched in the face for what they say here.

Some are atleast sort of understandable (I can admit a carebear being a bit ticked off that his brand new deadspace fitted Machariel just got blown up by some random guy who wanted a nice killmail). But why are (some) low and nullbears always screaming carebears ruin the game, even though they provide the cheap minerals so that they can get their PVP ships nice and cheap.

Where do industrialists stand in all this? What do miners think of missioneers and why? Which group is the least hated in all of new eden? Which acts are sure to get you hated (random PoS bashing maybe? Perhaps random wormhole ganking? Or just stealing a required mission item? What about freighter bumping?) and which are sure to get you loved?

By all means tell the community what group(s) you belong to, which group(s) you like and why, which group(s) you are neutral to and why, and which group(s) make you wish you could just fly a CONCORD battleship for a day and kill them all?

Despite what you may have heard there's only one rule of EVE:

Never stop learning and realise there's always a lot more to be learned. To this end, seek wisdom in everything.

Miners are hated the most in this game. Not because they are miners but because a lot of them are

A. Know nothing about the game apart from mining. I once had a hulk warp out of a belt when i was in a Tengu. He said that he warped because he was not sure if i was going to suicide him or not. Enough said.

B. Think that PvP should not apply to them as they are not hurting anyone and want to live in a bubble away from other players.

Apart from that the hate comes from the fact that EVE is fundementally a boring game unless you stop doing repetative things ie highsec missions. And anyone who is percieved as doing boring things with no risk are looked down on and that includes a lot of PvP

Flip side

Highsec Pver who dont have the time are forced to run missions as anything else takes time and dont like having there game dictated to them by people with lots of time.

SOV holding nullsec players are seen as sheep doing there masters bidding. Boredom

Gate camping boredom with little risk if done correctly.

Main career

There is only one Career that gains any kind of respect in EVE and that is small gang PvP, while being outnumbered but not out gunned. This is why everyone has such a hard on for Rooks and Kings. Youtube is full of small gang fights and everything else is instructional only.

If you can fight out of your league in manpower no one will have a bad word to say about you.

Well maybe the guys whos fleet you just blew up with a mere wing of your own. But yeah, I think this is mostly true.

PS: Perhaps we could say members of Rooks and Kings are the least hated in the universe?

The source of most actual hate is ignorance.

The motivation behind most of the posts you're talking about in the forums is wanting to look important, or trying to be funny.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

The fallacy is usually right at the beginning. You are asking for a logical explanation for something inherently illogical like emotion. Why don't you ask people to figure out how much love weighs while you're at it.

EVE is a reflection of the human condition, because as a sandbox EVE is merely a reflection of the humans within it. Once you understand this, then it will all make sense (or account for why it fails to make sense).

This is pretty much it right here.

And it's not just EVE. It's all forums, everywhere, on every kind of site, on absolutely every subject.

And site after site recently, even Scientific American, are just getting rid of Forums and comments utterly.

The dreck just is not worth reading, and most folks are tired of the dis-ingenuous dialogue. It's old and boring.

Humanity survived for millenia without the help of instant communication reactions from the entire populace, and it will most indeed continue to function just fine without it.

Really, it will.

I don't particularly care what you or anyone else decides to do with their time in this game. Don't, however, expect me not to shoot at you whenever the opportunity arises.

I don't think you can say fairer than that.

Please shoot me. Make it a fight I have a slight chance of winning, and I'll thank you for it. Make it a fight that is challenging and not too easy, and I'll love you for it. Bring 30 of your friends and sigh, maybe next time I'll get the elusive 'gudfite'.

I'll need a blingy 200bil isk titan before I can feel truly elite.

As you can imagine, this means a lot of nullbearing.

Is PvP video game. Would be no fun without made up enemies. The nice thing about it is, out of game, made up enemies can also be your friends. Heck, I'd even buy a beer for a non-Code compliant miner.
