4k Eve players that own a PS3.
I'm waiting for a PC release of Dust.

Should you count the same person more them once anyway?
When Valkyrie launch they will claim 1,5 milion players universe, even thou they are the same 500k eve players.

EVE players wanted DUST to fail before it was even released, and now that it's been out for a while and still doing mediocre they act all surprised and angry and say it's all CCP's fault.

EVE has 50k peak online during weekends and there are 500k accounts. Dust have 4k peaks and therefore there are 50k players at best - and 70-80% play for free so there are like 10-15k paying customers (20-30% paying customers = good number for F2P game). Sounds like pure win for f2p game which consumed millions to develop.

Most likely 400k number = accounts registered during a year.

Also don't say if counting the chinese server too. And is fun doesn't say how many of these 900 are from EVE and how many from dust.

They never put chinese server in coutn. They already said that. Chinese server is not administrated by CCP. They licensed the game for another company.

No. Eve players did not wanted it to fail. We predicted it would fail because CCP was sttuborn to not release it for PC and not link it DIRECTLY to EVE sov system.

That was the ONLY chance Dust ever had to be successfull... now its gone. Dust is dead

Bullshit.

Because diversifying your target audience on a different but related product is totally a bad idea.

No, it isn't. It's not doing terrific, but there's no reason it can't do better with improvements. It's not like EVE did all that great when it first came out.

Clarify "EVE players", because I have an alliance full of Dust fans that refused to believe it would die until I finally came around to liking it post-LAV nerf.

There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency.

It's possible since you just need a PS3 and Internet connection.

Dust is F2P and grant a minor passive training to one character per account. Anyone that tried it, even in beta, now own a "active account" unless they directly applied for deleting it (process unknown to me, not sure it's even possible).

Pick one, or the other.

Dust has, at any particular point in time, around 4000 people connected. What I'd be interested in knowing is: How long do people play for. I'd suspect it'll be less than Eve players. Which means that the number of people who play is higher.

The problem here is that EVE pretty much runs on niche. Making a game that is linked to your galactic space empire building rpg and pulling an FPS cover over it, with the hopes that the FPS is what will broaden the audience is not really hitting the nail.

I mean there is a reason that so many people buy COD right? You really can't deny that they specifically don't buy the other FPS games out there. That's something EA & DICE have been struggeling for years afaik. Even Battlefield and COD are so much unlike each other that they attract different audiences.

I don't mean to say that diversifying your target audience is a bad idea.

I mean to say that the means to do so are probably a little less obvious than forming a sentence with the words "console" and "first person shooter" in it.

Based on personal experience (15 year old FPS junkie son), most platformers stay about an hour max on any one game. Kids these days have the attention span of a... I can't even think of anything with less of an attention span, to be honest.

I'll spend up to eight or ten hours logged in at a time and I don't think I'm that unusual.

So the Dust numbers are probably higher than they have been made out to be in this thread.

IIRC last summer there was over 2 million dust characters created, so the 'active' definition is definitely based on people who are active.

If Hilmar wanted to inflate numbers he could have given the total amount of accounts in EVE, both subscribed and unsubscribed. He went for a useful number instead. Which means he probably did the same for DUST.

I mean, are you actually suggesting that only 400,000 people out of everyone on PSN bothered to make an account on a not-obscure F2P game?

The lower PCU could probably also be accounted for by EVE being, for many players, a game played to the exclusion of others, while DUST is probably one of many games its players enjoy on a periodic basis. I doubt that DUST players are as likely to log in and play as often as EVE players - it's just not that kind of game.

It's also not as if you can play with multiple DUST accounts concurrently. Pretty much everyone in DUST probably has only one account, compared to EVE where the average accounts per player is I think somewhere around 2-3. There's also not really a significant/any benefit to doing so, that I know of. I could be wrong.

and here's a newsflash for you, you are also a eve player. So by your demented logic you also wants dust to fail.
