Istvaan Shogaatsu [GHSC] fails to execute Alliance Termination

*Silas appears before the camera; seated in an ornate chair in front of a raging fireplace, a warm smile on her face*

Since I'll be leaving all of your pretty faces soon for an important personal mission (more on that later!) there's no harm in spilling the blood on this story I've been keeping secret for several years. I had hoped things might turn out differently of course, but such is the way of things. Tsk Tsk and all that.

A long time ago while discussing some topic or other among my fellow capsuleers a few members of the Ishuk-Raata Enforcement Directive made some off-hand remarks towards me which I found distasteful. I smiled politely and made a mental note to revisit the issue in the future.

That was several years ago, but we capsuleers have long memories.

I decided an appropriate punishment for conversational rudeness would be to gut their alliance, empty their hangars, and execute their leadership. This would be an appropriate lesson in Sabik ideology and an example to other capsuleers that what you say matters. Your words have consequences. At least so I thought.

The method for this judgement involved the oldest and deadliest purveyor of such services in the capsuleer or any other community; the Guiding Hand Social Club. Legends in their own time, reputations without equal. Young ones, look them up.

While Istvaan was eager for this operation, their services do not come cheap. Paying for an operation such as this on my own was certainly possible, but on the other hand convincing unsuspecting and unknowing capsuleers to finance my plans themselves had an... irrisistable quality.

Some astute viewers might recall several 'investment ventures' I have been announcing over the last two years. I sold many billion-isk stakes promising regular dividend returns. As many of you suspected (but not nearly enough), this is what we call in the business a [Ponzi] scheme. If it sounds too good to be true, if the rate of return is more than you would imagine making on your own, then surprise, you're the sucker. And a great many suckers were you. All dividend payments were merely those funds taken from fresh investors and fed back through the chain. I collected substantial amounts of money in this manner, which then paid for the termination contract with GHSC.

So it is with a happy heart I offer my sincere thanks to you capsuleers for enabling the possibility of such wanton destruction, bitterness, and ruined aspirations. Even if you didn't know it.

As I said earlier this plan has been in motion for nearly two years. Each piece on the board moved to the right location, each one doing their part. GHSC infiltrated their agents, convinced their turncoats, and began their slow process to achieve the appropriate alliance rights, trust, and so forth for what would have been a colossal and record-setting heist. You know the drill.

Now this is where it unfortunately falls apart. I of course kept regular contact with Mr. Shogaatsu during the operation. We proceeded to a place where he believed he could achieve the objectives, and then.... he vanished.

Now some of you might be thinking that he simply took the money and ran, but that's just not Shogaatsu's style. If he just stole all of your money, he would have let me know, rascal that he is. He's plenty rich, and mostly does these sorts of operations for the prestige. Besides ripping off large contracts tends to mean no more future contracts.

Anyhoo. He's been missing for many months now, with no contact. The fedo is out of the bag now, so we'll just have to think fondly of what might have been.

I even had a lovely hand-written note to leave in an empty IRED hangar for John and Katrina, but.... not meant to be.

So Istvaan, if you are out there somewhere on a beach or face deep in a pile of narcotics, are you listening? We are disappointed, we expected more from you. Can you prove me wrong? Can you still pull it off? Challenge to you.

Anyone interested in asking questions about this tale please feel free to discuss.

Oh, I imagine there are some of you wondering why? Why expend such effort, such resources for years of planning over a trivial verbal disagreement? Why try to ruin so many individuals who had nothing to with any of this?

Well? Why not?

*Silas smiles and waves as the camera-feed terminates*

On another note, we did happen to come by some significant donations of money with which to purchase a titan. At least one was from an oddly anonymous source. I guess this explains it.

Of course, maybe it's just completely unrelated!

EDIT:

Now, on to a more serious formal response to this.

It is the opinion of Ishuk-Raata that infiltration and such sorts of heists come as part of the risk of operating an alliance. Significant attempts are made to ensure proper hiring procedures are followed, but there's always the risk that that one employee with perfect references and attitude is actually just a mole. It happens to larger, smaller, older, and newer alliances than us. It is so wildly common that accepting the reality is a fact of life.

Eventually, somebody will steal from you, or a corpmate will attack you, or there will be those reporting from the inside to your enemies. Eventually, someone will betray you. This is a reality of being a capsuleer. Those with more to risk and more to lose are those who are inevitably targeted.

We have set our goals higher than most other organizations posting here on the IGS. We have achieved more than most others here on the IGS. We have survived and endured and prospered, where lesser groups have failed. Some of our former allies, like Silas Vitalia here, have succumbed to jealousy where they could have and should have rebuilt in the face of failure and continued on.

We have had our close calls with failure. We've had directors turn on us in spectacular fashion. We've had billions stolen from us. We've been crushed into the dirt by superior forces, and we've been embarrassed by our own failures. What we have not done, and what we will not do, is give up.

We will not become embittered and lapse into atrophy.

That being said, I can safely say that even if Istvaan comes back to the scene tomorrow and executes your plans to your fullest satisfaction - we will simply rebuild and continue our work. That's the luxury of being immortal... in the end, it's only another clone. It's only more ISK.

Regardless, we are already conducting a review of staff. It's possible, even likely, that whatever agents Istvaan Shogaatsu may have placed here are hidden well enough to escape our notice. It's also possible they were never placed at all. Perhaps this is all a fabrication, and there never was any threat. Perhaps you did indeed get taken for a ride, Vitalia.

In any case, we of Ishuk-Raata will hope that you can find peace in your heart. We hope you can live a fruitful life where the itch of revenge does not fester like a cancer in your mind the way it has these last two years.

We also apologize for not dying when you wanted us to.

Well dear with the amount of pilots you have, over 1000 now? If it took you this many years to pay for such a thing with a donation you all might need to go back to business school, yes?

You know, this is the first time I've felt both the desire to comfort someone for a collapsed business venture while still feeling an immense amount of pleasure at their failure.

Happy to hear this failed. Would've made for a bittersweet exit from your capsuleer life.

Why some continue to put their trust into people with your kind of reputation, or no reputation at all, is beyond me.

Silas, darling, I literally told you to just take my money! I do appreciate your kindness in not doing so, and of course I further understand why you didn't reveal anything more than it wouldn't have been a sound business decision. But if I had somehow known that it was an Istvaan plot I would have told you to take two billion. Take my money!

That said, I do actually rather like Katrina (naughty girl, you shouldn't say inappropriate things about the Blood Ruby), so I must second Ms. Hanaya's sentiment. Well put, darling.

All in all, a wonderful plot to have conceived and guided (ha ha ha oh I kill myself; sorry, Eran, not really) so far. I think I still have little bits of Istvaan in that dress I wore to your previous party. I didn't know a body could *do* that.

An announcement of a failed plot at petty revenge by a Blooder, who by all indications wound up funding the target... Well, I'm entertained. Big smile As it is, I'm glad it came to naught. I've always considered IRED one of the more respectable entities out there in its intent.

It is fitting that Vitalia will depart with a failure.

I will be sure to remind her of this (and the fact that she's a lying scammer) when she inevitably returns.

I hope any personal review will reveal agents that might still do ther dirty work, its not easy, and they will for sure be on alert now.

Any case, good to see this ended in failure.

Happens every day, sadly. Take a look in the Market Discussions or Crime & Punishment sections of GalNet for proof. These schemes are part and parcel of life in New Eden.

I can't feel much sympathy for anyone who lost money in this scam. Anyone who "invested" with the likes of Vitalia pretty much got what they deserved.
