EVE Client Frequently freezes up computer screen

The ingame crashing problem is made worse by the fact that it is not, in fact, a crash.

Rather, the UI freezes, while the rest of the client chunks away happily. This is why you don't disappear from space.

This problem has been around for a long time but it is getting steadily worse. Before todays patch, I couldn't go more than 15 minutes without a freeze.

At one point, I had one copy of the client with the frozen UI, and another one happily bumping the the frozen toon's ship. As soon as I force-quit the first copy of the app, he ewarped off.

Yep, thats how my ship loss possibly happened as well as capsule.

Worse is I need to force shutdown my computer because it freezes up my entire computer screen. So I can't get log data for it or anything.

Ok. Just for the Archive. I have the same problem.

It started about 3 days ago when the game was crashing more often than usual. Bad thing was, that restarting the game didn´t worked any more, because the launcher went black after pressing "play". Rebooting the computer helped.

Since today I cannot even access the game with a booted computer. After pressing "play" the screen goes black. There are game noises in the background. Mouse cursor is visible.

Bad thing.... for a trader.

If the game freezes, instead of doing a hard reset, try holding Command + Alt + Escape - this is the Ctrl Alt Delete equivalent in OSX. It has worked for me every time by automatically closing out the current application (which is Eve) and if it doesn't, then it should allow you to force quit the application manually.

As for the actual freezing problem, someone mentioned in another thread to disable Eve voice chat and it apparently worked as my game has not crashed since. Worth a shot.

Also forgot to mention that holding Command + Alt + Shift + Escape for about 3 seconds will definitely terminate the current application.

I'm also in this boat and having the same issues. I just signed up for the game and started enjoying it and then 2 days later it's not unplayable. I have the same flicker when it gets to character screen.

Please get this fixed. My training queue is inactive for the first time in 2 years. Everyone on these forums seems to be getting the exact same issue on the same type of hardware since the same patch. Come on ccp if it is never going to get fixed tell us now so we can cancel subscription.

I've tried all possible solutions to stop this, my EVE Voice is already disabled a while ago. It isn't the solution, it's a bug within EVE causing it which can only be solved by patching.

I forgotten about the command + alt + shift + escape, but if it does anything I'm unsure. If I'm willing to force my computer into a crash again I'll give it a go and try get logs on it.

Just put through a petition when it gets fixed and you will get all your SP refunded. I've had an issue a long while ago, and got SP reimbursement.

SP isn't the issue here, it's our game being unaccessable. And getting game time back would also be allowed for this.

Yeah the latest patch didn't help.

Are we all using the 9400M graphic card? Mid-

As per mac logins, it won't have dropped because we were logged in, like many of us stated, we could hear the background noise/music but unable to see anything or do anything, it's just froze up.

Frustrating on so many levels, It can't be that hard to replicate in house surely?

Any form of update from CCP would be most welcome at this time.

I can replicate it instantly. I just need to undock from Amarr station...

Maybe if I can somehow obtain logs while my client crashes I can post it here for CCP.

I'll give it a go.

I'm using the same 2009 9400M 256, 4GB ram system. I'm running 10.6.8 still and this problem has been around for awhile for me. But I only seem to encounter it on POS grids. Even with everything unchecked, brackets off and lows as I can get everything to go, it still pops up from time to time. Screen flickers, glitches out and I eventually have to force quit. Hasn't been as frequent until recently. I can log in and play but I'm cringing and crossing my fingers when we warp to a tower. Makes bridging out or fighting on towers nearly impossible.

CptBen: this was the rare nice CptBen, ill probably be back later and boogie will agravate me and ill call you all scrubs

Just want to add that when I launch EVE in windowed mode and minimize the window the screen still flickers when the character selection screen opens. About 15-20 seconds after the character selection screen appears the whole computer freezes. Again, this is happening in full screen mode, window mode while open, and window mode while minimized.

Not sure if this is helpful or not.

The game starts up fine. Then, usually after 15-30 min. I get the flicker followed by the crash, although I'm able to force quit without rebooting. Always at the station so far (windowed mode). I'm also on 9400M (this seems suspicious). 2 GB RAM, OS 10.9.1.

Still happening after todays update, running windowed mode, game starts fine, after running for an hour or two, the game flashes then freezes not only the Eve client but the whole Mac UI, I can't click on anything, thankfully command, alt, shift, esc kills the Eve client and the Mac UI returns back to normal. Happened one time in a wormhole scouting enemy POS, and the other in fleet warping to battle, when interestingly although the UI was completely frozen it seems like the game was still running in the background, and I could hear fleet fc talking on eve voice. This is running on Macbook Pro 13 inch 4 GB NVIDIA GeForce 320M

I too am having this issue.. I am running mavericks on a 2009 macbook pro with the NVIDIA 9400m 256mb. I can get in the game and i don't have problems until i get around other ships. I found a temporary fix by hiding all the brackets. But i did still get the flicker freeze it just happened less often. My client worked fine 2 days ago.. All my graphics settings are on the lowest settings too. So my mac should be able to run eve still.

I have a fix for black-out character selection screen, albeit a temporary and superficial one. Once you reach the blacked character selection screen, try to click on the empty character slot(s), It's easy for me since I only have one character, once you do you will be directed to the character creation screen which is fully functional and visible, after that is just simply cancel your character creation and Voilà! regular visible character selection screen, and you can go into the game, no problem!! But...

If your character was in a docking station, DO NOT undock, as soon as you do, once the game renders in the textures it will crash. So... well, at least you can get the SP training going.

For the Mac users who can't command + tab your way out of the game try command + control + power button (don't hold down the button), it's the forced restart, wait a bit, it will restart.

For developer: maybe the fact we can see the character creation screen and for some reason also able to correct the blacked out screen has something to do with the bug? Also, back when I was playing Diablo 3, mac NVIDIA 9400m users get much better frame rate when play the game with Boot camp on Windows, when in native apple program is just unplayable. Blizzard patched it up. Could it be the same thing? http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5638004473

I am spitballing because I am desperate. Please help.

I am experiencing the exact same black screen issue. I'm running Mac OS X 10.8.5 on an iMac 21.5-inch late 2009 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 4 GB 1067 MHz RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB graphics card. Here is the log from the Console (you can see I was able to Command-Option-Escape from the totally black character selection screen, although pressing enter/return on it does work the screen remains black so I figured this was enough):

I would very much like to know if my computer becomes officially unsupported by CCP as soon as possible. I really do not want to buy a new computer but I will if y'all officially give up on solving this problem and that's what it takes. Is there any other way I can update my training queue other than installing EVE on a computer that works?
