Can anyone tell me what's going on here? I don't really want to go through the entire really stupidly long full install just to get back onto the game.

We probably could figure something out if you told us almost anything.

When games start using a launcher they get lazy. They slap in sloppy coded patches because they figure they can just fix it the next day or whatever. We become the beta testers for the patches. Letting them know that they just broke our game.

I have yet to play an MMO where this hasn't ended up happening.

That's what's going on here.

Jill: Given it's something that needs patching, I figured the new build hardly applied only to me, so I'm not sure what details you're after. A new build came out overnight - surely you've noticed? - and my game is neither autopatching nor can the site find a manual patch. You know... new build, no patch. Wtf.

Mr Epeen: I know what a patch is. I want to know why there isn't one. Is it just me? Why on earth would the patch not show for just one person in that case though? Will it be out later in the day, as in, is eve typically late releasing patches? If so, why the hell bring out the new build before making the patch available?

I've only been playing a few days, and played as recently as last night, so it's not like it's a matter of my last update being so old that they haven't made a patch from there to the newest

Nope :l i live in new zealand, downtime hits around midnight. then its off to work in the morning.

Upon re reading your post you wording just seemed to give no information first run, even still you gave very vauge and minimal information at best for anyone that could help and wanted to.

Got any other details than the given "somethings borked"?

Go to your EVE install directory and run the exefile.exe file in the bin folder. This bypasses the launcher. The actual game client will download and install the new patch. Hopefully your launcher will work for the next patch.

Jill: You've still yet to tell me what info you want. All I know in the first place is, it's borked. I had the most recent build, now another one has come out and, as far as I can tell, both game and website are convinced the patch for it doesn't exist. I've only been playing a few days. I've never had to patch this game before and never had a problem like it patching others. Problems with the patched game, sure, but not the total nonexistence of the patch in the first place.

Additionally, sorry I didn't assume you were posting from work. Good to hear downtime is at midnight, though. Some of the places with daily downtime I've been on it was around 10pm here, when I was still up, which was always a pain.

Ayures: I can't find exefile.exe. I tried eve.exe and that just opens the launcher. None of the subdirectories seem to have it either.

Im sure its just a patch for the patch that patches the hotfix for the patch that fixed the last patches patch that fixed the patchspansion.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

It's in EVE\bin and it has the little EVE "E" for its icon.

C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\exefile.exe

Assuming you used the default install path (and have Windows 7), you can just copy & paste that into your Windows Explorer address bar and it'll run.

Ah, sorry. I see it now.

However, it only gets me to the same screen as before, when it said there was a new build and asked if I wanted to download the patch. Pressing yes only gets me this:

Quote:
There was an unexpected error while retrieving update status:

Unable to download file /590158/evepremiumpatch590158.exe from the server.
Error: url //cdn1.eveonline.com/590158/evepremiumpatch590158.exe not found

Do you want to go to support page?

Pressing yes on that only gets me this:

We were unable to locate a patchfile for your build no. (710875).

That's no good. :/ File a support ticket and hope they reply quickly.

Current build is 712925, so yep, you are out of date.
As per
http://community.eveonline.com/news/patch-notes/patch-notes-for-rubicon-1.1

Which does list a new patch.
710875 was the 1.1.3

And patch process worked fine for me.

Yes, I am out of date. That was the patch it was last night. The site is saying it can't find the patch for 710875 to update it to 712925. And therefore suggests uninstalling my game and reinstalling the entire thing.

Have you tried running repair.exe ?

Sounds like you have one of the rare update bugs. Happens to people once in a while that something corrupts and it can't auto update. The repair tool may be enough to solve it, otherwise yep, you will have to do a full reinstall. I've had to do it once in the last two years when I had a power cut part way through a patch process and it corrupted.

I'm trying repair.exe now

EDIT: Thank you Angelica, that seems to have done the trick, and installed the patch too. Went straight into the game this time.

.... how long have you been in eve? Because you either forgot what it was like before... incarnia I guess, or you were not there. That was real beta testing. Trying to get on and the server was up and down all day, or you were in a system alone, and you were lagged out... yea those were good times. Eve is more stable now then it have ever been. which is scary I guess. lol
