Food-wise, pretty much anything Italian. Since I live in the north, however, it's actually pretty all over the place. Joe Bastianich is from here in the Friuli region and he just opened up one of his restaurants close to where I live. Best burger I've ever eaten in my entire life. Other than that, standard prosciutto/salame/pasta/pizza/etc. I say "standard" because it's normal to us, but it should be noted that it pretty much beats the pants off of any other cuisine anywhere else in the world.

The other night a pub started doing a sort of Man vs. Food menu with really huge burgers along with lots of other meat dishes. I got the "esageburger" (esagerare = to exaggerate); it was four meat patties topped with prosciutto cotto, pancetta (not bacon, but pancetta...even better than bacon) and their own barbecue sauce. It was rather nice but I went on a diet the following week because you can only eat that stuff once in a blue moon unless you're ok with looking like a whale.

I'd have to say the best part of eating here is everything is always fresh and cooked well. Back home in the states everything is fake and pre-cooked, even if you go out to eat. Going to Chili's is the same as going to McDonald's. Here, however, you can eat amazing food and pay like 12-15 bucks a person, drinks included, and it's fantastic.

Made pork chops, cornbread, and Texas-style barbecue beans for the family last night. They were a little surprised at how much time, care, and attention a pot of pinto beans could need.... Smile

Many folks presume that because beans *look* simple, that they are simple.
Nope.

Hey Hey Memphis! Ive been there a few times. Only other place to get BBQ the way I like it without making it myself. Also, welcome South Carolina!

it sure is nice to see all yall responding to my post. The best thing about the south is the sense of community and family we all seem to have even though we are worlds away some times.

Keep the posts coming in, if you know any other southern players no matter where they currently call home, gettem to post on here.

I live near Raleigh, NC. Trouble is so many "Yankees" are moving down here that I may have to move further south. There is a town near here called Cary. We all say that is stands for "Concentration Area for Relocated Yankees.

Ah, nothing like uppity Yankees moving in to enjoy all the benefits of southern living just so they can berate everything about it. That or turn it into some vegan/hipster/indie mecca a la Austin.

You never see Californians because Californians have never heard of any place outside of L.A. or San Francisco, except for European cities they shamelessly try to ape but fail hopelessly.

"Snowbirds," in Florida.

Yuo can tell 'em in an instant - By the ginormous land-cruiser they're driving, hauling a little econo-box behind. Also by the pale skin and the way they sweat in mild weather.
