hey, I've played EVE since 2009 but never thought too much about what I was doing right and wrong. I got up to 30million ISKs and hovered around there consistently, never managing to break through that barrier and failing massively at combat.

so I'm going to do it right this time, I'm keeping track of everything I explore and find out about EVE in a blog called "Adventures of an EVE Online Newb".

if you have any suggestions for topics you want to see covered, please let me know. or if you have improvements to make, post them in the comments of the appropriate blog post or let me know here so I can fix any mistakes.

hopefully it comes in handy for at least one other newbie! Big smile

This is a pretty nice blog.

Your experiences are a lot more interesting than my current edge of the seat "log in, check skills, log out" phase of newbieness.

Just added a new post: http://evenewbadventures.weebly.com/1/post/2011/12/buddy-invites-first-day-of-eve-for-my-friend.html

It's about how awesome the buddy invites are (finally got a PLEX!) and some ideas on mining strategies and a few things that might lower the learning curve of EVE.

more of a *bump* though ;) I know that lots of blogs get started and the bloggers drop off after a few weeks ;)

If you've got a buddy to help you, then missions are FAR better for cash than mining. What I used to do with a friend of mine was this. He'd get in a Drake (almost any BC with a tank bonus can do this) that was tanked all to hell. He'd warp into the mission first and get all the aggro.

I'd warp in with a Thorax with zero tank and tons of DPS and just zip around and slaughter stuff. We were rolling through level 4s pretty fast, and since we both had skilled up to fly a Noctis we'd salvage together as well. It went pretty fast and we made a pretty penny.

If you want to go faster then make sure you're in a system with multiple available mission agents. Each of you gets a good mission from each agent, you both get in combat ships and blow through them (remembering to bookmark a wreck at each site), and turn them all in. Then you both swap to a Noctis and warp to your bookmarks to salvage. Since all the jump gates vanish when you turn the missions in you won't have to slow-boat from gate to gate.

I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs.

Thanks to everyone commenting and posting advice for newbs! So freaking helpful and I just started a newb/casual gamer corp, send me a message if you want to join, we're doing missioning mainly, some mining (though I hear there isn't too much profit in that Blink)

I also wrote up a blog post about how to start a corp: http://evenewbadventures.weebly.com/1/post/2012/02/how-to-start-a-corporation.html

It really does pay to read through the EVE wiki :D

To further lower the costs of production, I did some mining for a few hours. Boring but it does help a bit.

MIMAF (minerals I mine are free) is a fallacy. Make sure to set a price that covers the cost of the minerals you mined, as you could have just sold them instead of building something with them.

Also, don't mine what minerals you need but rather mine what ore earns the most ISK, then refine and sell that and buy the materials you need.

Be aware of transaction taxes and broker fees. Accounting and Broker Relations help reduce those.

A large part of industry is buying and selling, so don't neglect trade skills.

Also, blueprint material research ("ME" or "ML") helps reduce production costs by up to 10% on most BPO. If you need a BPO researched, contact me via EVE-mail to arrange that.

Yeah I got my industry up to level 5, same with Production Efficiency, and a whole boatload of industry skills.

That's a goodpoint. What's been happening now is that I'm shipping whatever we make and whatever mine to some other area where it's worth a lot more. The discrepency in pricing between regions is a little ridiculous for some items...

This is a great idea. I also thought of documenting my EVE Experience. I went for the Industry approach. There can never be enough tutorials/wikis/blogs for EVE Online.
