A new ship idea

I've had this idea for a while now, ever since I saw that post on IGS about some luxury liner getting launched and subsequently getting blown up by pirates. After I saw that, I thought....hmmm...maybe that could be incorporated into EVE somehow...

So, here's my idea for your perusal. LUXURY LINERS. or maybe just Liners. The idea here is that people book passage on one of these new ships. They have a docking bay like capitals, but ANYONE with a valid ticket can dock with it, but frigate sized craft only, to make room in the docking bay. Of course, the ship itself would be flown by yet another player, who is tasked with ferrying other players to their destination.

Here's the fun part, should it somehow get blown up, all the players that booked passage on it get spit out in their pods, enhancing the realism of it.

As for ship models, they could just use the freighter model and give it a new color scheme, say, the Obelix's normal green, and the Anshar's color scheme...the new liner would have a color scheme depicting a ship used for peaceful purposes, but still fitting the race it came from.

like say for example....the Amarr Flock (badnameiknow). This one would use the Providence hull and be gleaming white.

Now, some would argue that jump clones negate this, but some people might be interested in this concept. so what say you all?

I'd like to let players in their pods board my carrier so that I can boosh them to a new deployment zone, and my corp/alliance doesn't have to rely so heavily on having an office that people can deathclone to. Especially when offices in good locations can be so hard to come by.

A carrier being able to carry other players would also be interesting from the perspective of being able to insert a small gang deep in enemy territory, beyond what a titan bridge can normally reach, but it comes with the risk that you actually have to physically jump there to a regular cyno with your carrier and deploy all the pods and ships.

I don't think that a special ship class that people can dock in is necessary, especially if it's something as slow as a freighter, and can't jump... that just makes no sense. If you want to get somewhere you would be so many times faster just going by yourself in your pod.

This idea is only good in terms of immersion. Thats it.

Who in their right mind would want to dock in a capital ship that someone else can freely drive around. Youre just asking for trouble in a scenario like this.

If you want to move from A to B, just do it yourself. If you are lazy use autopilot.

Supported. I promise I would never fly this into a gatecamp.

Repeatedly.

I support the idea of players being able to dock in carriers.. (maybe only supercaps though) It would make more sense of a carrier to be able to have x.xm3 of hanger space where players can dock inside the ship. and remove themselves from D-Scan of dock into the ship as it jumps to a cyno and then deploy from the ship..

As awesome as the idea of letting people dock in your carrier is, the force projection implications are staggering. As much as people complain about the ease of force projection caused by titans, getting a titan chain of any length setup is a serious project due to the short range of each titan bridge, the precautions needed to move titans, and the need to have the full chain of titans and cynos available at the same time. Now instead, you have carriers that not only jump 14.625 LY per jump, but can then spew out 2 manned BS, or 10 manned T3s per carrier... I'd imagine T3s would come in triage carriers, and the BS would probably accompany a slowcat fleet.

Actually, clone vat bays suggest you should be able to do this, but due to the cool down on jump clones, even after the new skills, they just aren't practical for tactical use. Afaik, they are only used to give people JCs without needing a sov station or standings. Afaik, no one even uses them to move new people out to null.

Except carriers can no longer fit clone vat bays.
