Where are we at with this project? My launcher has recently become corrupt, causing it to freeze every time I start it. I can still start Eve (for now) by bypassing the launcher entirely and running the application directly.

However, I need to delete the application and reinstall it (since the repair tool did not fix the issue), but I absolutely do not want to lose my settings--from window positions, overview tabs, etc.

Any progress on this CCP???

oh this would be epic.

i would like a folder for each toon in my docs/eve where settings are saved to a text file. preferably a seperate file for each group of settings (file for overview, file for ships settings etc)

i would like it if the screen layout settings were saved so you could copy to another toon. i find im forever tweaking windows so that they look the same for different toons, the colour scheme too would be nice.

Would love to see settings linked to EVE api keys. To be able to click on a link through the EVE browser and have it automatically import keys. So yeah, server side saves.

I get that ppl are passionate about change. I post here to plant seeds. You see your idea as is? Holy **** you win! So let's post, and see what the DEVs and our peers use.

Personally i would welcome ability to export/import settings as XML file. And on importing chance to choose what you want to import..

Windows settings, shortcuts, overviews, etc.... basicly everything player can change ingame.

I've had to re-install Eve a number of times and the most frustrating and annoying parts of the re-installation is re-configuring Eve. I've spent weeks playing on an old laptop because I dread the hours of time it will take to perfect all of the windows, overview settings, market orders/prices, etc... I can't state that enough. I have to spend hours customizing the UI. I don't even get to enjoy playing the game. And when I'm done, I usually stop playing for a few days because of all the frustration. I'm sure all (many) of the devs pIay eve. So you understand our frustration and requests.

If you want to get a good idea of what settings to store, try this.
1) Uninstall Eve.
2) Reinstall from scratch. No importing/exporting.
3) Take note of every frustrating detail and how much time you spend on each task.
4) prioritize on time-spent and how many others do that exact same task.

1) What settings would you like to have stored?
High Importance
* Keyboard Shortcuts
* Overview Settings (specifically colors, backgrounds and columns)
* Market Quickbar (saved items and comments)
* Chat channels

Low Importance
* Saved fittings
* Window tabs stacking
* Suppressed dialog messages
* Drone settings (groups, aggro)
* Navigation settings (null/low-sec, kill-time avoidances)

2) How would you expect the synchronization (import/export) to function? What would the interaction be?
I want all of these settings to be hosted in the cloud. I want all but the graphics, sound, window-position settings to be exactly the same. The reason I don't include window-position is because I must have different settings because of different monitor sizes between installations- this is tied to graphics. It'd be nice to clone settings (in-game) from Character A->B on the same account. I understand the appeal for import/export for players who have OGB or multibox, I'd likely scream my head off if I had to make a change several times because of a re-install.

3) How would you go about sharing settings with other players? (directly or in-directly)
.xml (or similar).

The same way you do it now is fine although I want to be able to export and import EVERYTHING.

The location of the UI, 100% every setting in the overview settings like all the proper tabs, placement and order of fields, colors... I mean everything. I should not have to rebuild a setup after importing it because it only records a small portion of it.

I'd like the simple fact that when I hit export it would actually export. I have a total of 30 different profiles and after unchecking 16 it still doesn't export my settings. I can't even export my overview settings after going through and selecting 10 of the most important.

  • Basically everything is mentioned in previous replies, ...
  • Make sure to include things that are now in neither the User or Character files on the local computer (Notepad, Inventory Filter (!!), ...)
  • Being able to share your complete setup between characters and accounts is really necessary.
  • Also 'personal bookmarks' as an optional share would be great.

  • Make it so can name your settings save-file, to be able to have multiple (e.g. one for desktop and one for laptop)
  • Make each setting an option to save or not in the current save-file.

  • Would be a nice to have, from my point of view to be able to 'trade' you settings save-file.

Can we get an update on the progress of this project?

Personally I want to save all my window locations across all my accounts to easy my ISBoxer setup.

I'm gonna quote a lot form a post I just made in the Ideas forum.

I would love to be able to save/load UI Layouts:

Quote:
The basic idea:
Functionality that allows players to save and load custom UI configurations.

What I mean by UI configurations:
Locations of windows on screen, their size, whether or not they're pinned, etc.- I am not talking about overview tabs.

Why this is worth considering:
I can give a personal example. I currently play with multiple monitors, but they're not all the same resolution. While it is not too complicated or time consuming to switch one client over to the other screen and change its resolution, it is a very tedious endeavor to reposition and resize all of my UI windows.

This is normally just an inconvenience, but when I'm in the midst of a PvP engagement and I need to switch one client to my main screen and throw the other one over to the smaller one, it is a real debacle. I often find myself battling my ship's warp speed by trying to move and resize chat windows, fleet windows, overview tabs, d-scan, and whatever else before I land on grid. I usually don't even bother with the damage and battle notifications. It's not that I have too many useless things on screen: the problem is that when I change resolutions, all of these UI windows are overlapping and spilling outside of the screen.

But this issue is not just related to personal hardware. One might want different UI layouts for different tasks within the game. Or, maybe it's just a Friday and someone feels like using their special "Friday UI" layout as opposed to the "Monday - Thrusday UI" layout. A silly example, I know, but it gets the basic idea across.

It would make life so much easier if one could simply push a couple buttons to load the proper UI layout (one that has already been created and saved). It would save a lot of time. Plus, I'm sure there are other features I haven't thought of that others might.

Here's that thread.

I would love to have the ability to import and export these settings to transfer them between characters, and quickly switch between saved UIs on a screen.

Seeing that we are getting new broadcast colors and stuff, has there been any progress on this? I love the idea that you guys want to have a unified way to do it ( import and export ); can't wait, in fact, I hope it has not been scrapped and is still in works. :D

In the days when EVE was neatly tucked away in its own folder, there was a subfolder called Settings. If you installed a second client you could copy that folder from your primary installation and use it to overwrite the one in the second, instantly duplicating your window positions and sizes...etc across...
I'd like to be able to do that again...

Oh by the way, until CCP do get around to doing this kind of thing, while goons are evil, grr goons and all that jazz, there is such a thing as GarpaUI, which allows you to backup restore all your settings at whatnot. There's a community spotlight about it and everything:

From my primary character, basically everything I do to customise my overview, chat channel settings, window positions and neocom buttons. Oh and browser bookmarks. I keep having to reinstall so have done this quite a bit and end up losing those. Probably all mentioned before but just in case:

  • Turn off the tutorial (on every single character argh)
  • Chat windows - show timestamp/reset chat character size/remove character portraits and position them. I'm not too concerned about which channels I'm in as most characters are different - but I do always split local/intel from the main chat window
  • Neocom buttons - delete the ones I hardly use and add those I frequently use/move about, then position and resize those windows on opening
  • Customising various necocom settings - turning off wallet flashes, highlighting partial skills on character sheet, sorting book mark locations in p&p by range, fiddling with mail notifications, setting contracts to show more detail on searches & sorting them by price, changing buy & sell orders to sort prices and highlight my orders, setting fleet finder to show all and configuring the broadcasts
  • Import overview settings from file - this is fine at the moment
  • Reposition targets & tweak hud settings - turn off that annoying camera pan & safety, reset warning notifications

Although we don't have it, someone mentioned shared contact settings - would be awesome to have

Something like the export / import overview would be fine, with a variety of tick boxes so you can customise a master template. Or just set it per client. Not fussed as long as it works.

The xml files used for overview settings work well for sharing, although a browser based link sounds useful. If there was an out of game, browser based option to create customised settings that mimic being logged in it'd be handy.

Please let us know if this is still being looked at, a fix would be great. Just downloaded Garpa tho, cheers Lucas.
