I have been requested to keep this person anonymous but a generous pilot has donated a prowler and the necessary skill material to the Disciples. I will be training for its use immediately. The training will take some time.

The rescued people are an interesting lot. many groups who were rescued together say that they do not want to be separated when they are transported to new places in different regions of space. They neered death together and they wish to take new risks and experience new life together. We have them to be patient as we prepare to use blockade runners to accomplish the transport of larger groups.

To our benefactor, we say thanks. Oh yes, he also donated a large sum of ISK for future training and equipment purchases.

“Annihilate the Starkmanir tribe.” These were the words that came to mind when I came across the abandoned Khumaak of "hand of Maak." The words had been spoken by the heir of the holder assassinated by the ruling staff that he had moments earlier held in his hand. What had been a symbol of his power and control became the instrument of his death. The consequences of the assassination were far reaching for the Minmatar people but the short term retaliation almost eliminated a whole people.

This particular example of a Khumaak is now hanging in Matriculation Center #3. I hope that it becomes more than a reminder of bloodshed. I hope that it also becomes a symbol of freedom and the possibility of peaceful self-rule. Violence will never permanently preserve a people. Eventually peace must be the way that a people live if they wish to survive, nay even thrive.

I hope the residents of our matriculation center learn to be a people, not of revenge, but of lasting peace. We cannot force this on anyone. Each individual must will it for themselves.

LESSONS FROM FIELD DRESSING

I recently spent some time with my friend planetside. I have mentioned him before. He has chosen a simple life of sustenance living together with his family. Hunting and growing what they need to live, understanding the environment and respecting its intricacies; these are what characterize my friend.

"How can you eat meat and not be willing to touch the blood of the animal killed for your sustenance?" He has asked me this question. So, I went on the hunt with him this time. "It is time that I teach you how to field dress game, my friend" That is indeed what he did. To make the story short. My hands were inside the animal to remove its entrails, heart, lungs, liver, etc. This is done so that the body cools quickly and the meat is cleanly and safely processed.

There is a feel, smell, and sight of real blood from the animal that is killed so that we could eat.

SO...

Warriors of old touched the blood of their enemies. This could not be avoided. Warriors of old understood the meaning of life and the significance of taking life for a just or necessary cause. But now? The capsuleer floating in his vat of ectoplasm, never touches, let alone sees the blood of the men and women he kills. Yet, the most violent among us dares call himself/herself, a warrior. So sanitary our killing has become. So neat, so tidy, so clean and without smell and feel. push a button, kill your enemy. Do you know what his blood smells like? I thought not.

You are more machine than warrior.

Besides the Freedom Program offered by the Electus Matari, the Disciples of Ston are looking for other opportunities by anti-slavery groups for training, both academic and vocational. We are also looking for legitimate employment opportunities in null and sub-null space where transport of former slaves does not have the legal ramifications of confiscation. Some of our Matriculants are willing to enter risky and dangerous occupations while others are not. We are trying to expand our options in advance of our ability to provide covert transport on a larger scale. Please respond here as all our members check this from time to time.

This post will appear both on the DSTON log and on the Matriculation Center log.

I am struggling somewhat with the corporate leadership learning curve. To help in one area, I recently replaced our regular secure water depot with one that has audit capabilities. I am trying to keep track of when and how much I have to supply it to keep up with Center needs. Assuming we will be adding such depots for other supplies, I will need some way to anticipate inventory and production requirements.

A PLEASANT REMINDER OF GOOD DAYS

Moments ago, I ran into one of the good pilots that I met in the first days in Piekura. He was well and that brought joy to my heart. It reminded me of the good days of the past and the good days of the present. May you prosper in times of peace both inside and out, my friend.

I would have to disagree with you there on my part as it is a habit of mine to harvest the body and blood of my fallen foes, the very essence of their life being drained leads them to see such visions of enlightenment.

I recommend you try the blooding process yourselves sometime as it is most purifying.

I was monitoring "the summit" tonight while doing some transport work for the Disciples. Part of the discussion revolved around what makes a people "better off" is one situation vs. another. A Khanid was arguing that her slaves were "better off" with her than if they were freed and in the Republic. Personally I believe that is generally an absurd position. That was effectively pointed out by the others in the debate. That, however, is not the point I wish to make.

Why have I continued my involvement with the Disciples of Ston? It is because they know when to end debate and act to create environments where people can experience what it means to be"better off" practically. The heart of the Matriculation program is to put brick and morter to the claim that free is better. And...they do it without weapons. DSTON finds unconventional ways to free people and help them discover self-determination through simple provision.

That is a big part of why I want to stay associated with this group and with their ideals. Yes, they debate like everyone else, but then they also "do."

To accommodate the expanding services of the Disciples of Ston, we have hired and transferred several staff members for our corporate HQ in Korama. Secretarial/Clerical staff, security personnel, as well as janitorial staff have been hired and transferred to the HQ. These individuals are all people whom we have rescued and have requested to work for our organization. 43 former slaver hounds are now being trained as service dogs by 27 trainers. We have added secretarial and janitorial staff to the Vocational training center. We have aded additional security staff to each Corporate division. We have 40 inmates now at our detention center. Additional security staff will be added from time to time if the center grows in population. We have requested the assistance of Concord in this matter and have opened our center to their inspection. Lastly, we have opened a Development Office Division for future plans and provision for those plans. It is currently staffed lightly, but that may change. We anticipate steady growth of both our vocational and academic centers.

Disciples are reminded to make these employment options available to any you may rescue from space.

Curiosity almost killed the cat...

What is "named loot to sell?" I ran across it in a wreck to day. I noted that the pilot was still in system, so asked about it. No response. I didn;t really want the item or need it, but I really wanted to know what it was. The info available said nothing. WHen I tried to beam it aboard, I found I had no cargo space for it, but it said something about a load of plastic wrap. Anyway, the pilot appeared and fired on me since I was tagged as a theif. I manage to get away and he still has four minutes to catch me.

I still don't know what it was. Does anyone know?

P.S. My apologies to the pilot. I only wanted to know what it was, but I should not have tried to take it from you. My curiosity doesn't justify attempted theft.

Might have been bait for a trap. Could have been the reason you did not get any response back and that he fired upon you when you took the bait. That would be my reasoning.

I have a big issue to deal with regarding water supply and consumption in our Centers. The Elders have convened to ask a big question. How should we determine a reasonable per/person water consumption level per day. Each unit of water contains 380 liters. How many liters does the "average person" use each day. Basic research will show that some people in the Federation for example, waste huge amounts of water. We will not be using them as our standard. The other sovereignties vary vastly in water usage. How do we determine a reasonable amount? It is a harder question than meets the eye.

Would the readers of this fine forum be willing to help us determine how much water per person our M-centers need each day?

Drinking is not the big issue. Hygiene is the bigger issue. If Ston can establish another water production plant, that will help things a lot. Perhaps Ta Pang could also train up to build a plant as well.

I have read that depending on the climate, the average human consumes between 2-6 litres of water per day.....so long as we are not setting up in a desert, we should be on the lower end of the scale.

I have setup a small water production facility to supply the Center #4. I am not sure how much we will be producing once it is up and running, but any surplus will be deposited into the appropriate container.

Disciples, all in good time, all in good time. I am pleased to report that soon we will be producing livestock, and fertilizer. We already have a supply of soil and seed. We can begin self-sustaining food production. Our planetary colony is a garden spot and should supply all the needs for a growing community. I have also stepped up water production. We will have enough and more to spare. We also need to look into long term production needs in other areas necessary to sustain the communities. Keep thinking, in other words.

FOR WHOM DO YOU SPEAK?

I have reflected upon recent interactions and have come to the conclusions that many of us are less independent than we would like to think. No one wants to be purely the mouthpiece of another even when faithfully representing the interests of another, our own individuality is important, to most anyway. However, lately I have wondered if many pilots are merely mouthpieces of others. I wonder if you may have thought the same.

It seems like there is a bit of deja vu in the so called "new voices" coming out of the academies. Have contemporary teacher forgotten to teach capsuleers how to represent themselves in a unique, individualistic way? It seems so. One could almost make a game of guessing who specifically is being represented in some of the voices heard these days.

I have found a Khumaak. This would be the second such item that has come into the possession of the Disciples of Ston in recent weeks. I am storing it in Caldari territiory unto Manwe can come get it with a covert vessel. This one will go on display in one of the other Centers.

The symbolism of the Khumaak is fascinating in that it represents terrible pain and destruction for the Minmatar and yet is a rallying symbol. The Amarr fear it to the extent that it is contraband in their systems. We will keep our eye out for more such items in future days.

The residents of our Matriculation Centers have requested that we open a Minmatar Cultural Center at one of our locations. With the acquisition of a second Khumaak, the former slaves who now live in Amarr space under the protection of our centers have determined that it would be a valuable addition to have cultural education at the Centers including a hands on cultural museum. At this point, we have only two items for display, but we anticipate over time adding several more. The residents desire to have objects from many different cultures be a part of the cultural center. Right now, we think it will open at Center #3 for the simple reason that it is easiest to get illegal items such as the Khumaak there.

The Disciples of Ston need help in the form of suggestions and recommendations. The residents of our Matriculation Centers wish to establish a Minmatar cultural center with our help. The problem is that among the Disciples, I am the only Minmatar. I myself am a former slave and even among the tribes, a bit more irenic than others. We would appreciate suggestions from those more steeped in tribal culture as to what would make a cultural center meaningful and educational for the residents and their children. Thanks, in advance.
