I've been monitoring the graphs on eve-offline.net for a while now, and i did notice a decrease in subscriptions if compared with the same period last year, for the past two months. Generally even expansions that are not that "expected", like incursion last year, see an increase on the subscription numbers on the weeks prior to its release.

However here we are less than a week away from one of the most anticipated expansions since Trinity and the server has had trouble getting past 40k players online for the past two weeks. Mind you, this is keeping with the trend that we've seen since the release of the Incarna expansion.

So i've been wanting to ask. How many of you are waiting for the exp to hit live before resubbing alts, know people that are waiting to resub his or hers accounts or simply no longer can afford to have alts because of the current PLEX prices?

I still have this and another character subbed just haven't been logging on but to switch skills and such. Been playing Skyrim obsessively until crucible comes out.

tbh, I have resubbed through the winter patch. However, I don't see it fixing the greater problems involving the scap blob or the bloated coalition NAP/NIP involving 85%+ of null sec. Until those things are actually addressed I don't see how the game will improve. So I'm watching to see if I'll stay subbed or not.

The scaps need a radical nerf and then balanced upward in order to try to fix the fact that CCP waited too long to work on ship balance. Tier 3 bc's won't change that nor will the current scap nerf. Too little, too late.

The giant NAP/NIP that's consumed null has to be broken because it destroys the ability for players to set or achieve goals. Without the idea that you can do something more in the game there is little reason to log in. Without the conflict the game world stops functioning. Sure, the big alliances may have "wars" with each orher but the non-invasion mentality means th wars are actually just tornaments without purpose and thus without interest. Without these conflicts the market stagnates and the game dries up and dies.

There must always be a new horizon to reach for. The idea of having to rent that horizon from an alliance is a poor alternative and crushes drive. The fact that no matter what you might achieve, an unstoppable "I win" scap blob full of bored pilots will sweep it away at will also destroys player drive. EVE becomes finite without those 2 problems being addressed ruthlesssly because they blot out goal setting/achievement. End game but nobody actually wins.

FU Morons who conceived free to play initiative. First, you are totally wrong. Eve is pay to play. Forget about ISK farming and plex. It's not meant for general public. You can't fund your accounts off that, else you need to resort to cheating and macro botting.

Skyrim, Battlefield 3, COD MW 3 and other titles are being released. Then there is Xbox and PS3. They draw the player base away. Over 7 years a lot of thing changes in a person's life, not many can remain active and keep all their accounts, because Eve is a lasting experience, not for casual player.

CCP had done a lot of bad decisions before they faced some solvency problems. They funded 3 other weird projects and diverted a lot of resources from EvE. It made the player base mad, some rage quit. Today CCP hurry to fix things up, so they give "phat" promises with winter expansion. They try to recover from their mistakes and apology before subscribers.

This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

WARP DRIVE makes eve boring

really - add warping align time 300% on gun aggression and eve becomes great again

Why does everyone who complains about "unfairly" high plex prices always mention trying to maintain multiple accounts?

Because those are the people who BUY PLEX... Most single-account users dont use plex.

Further, the game basically requires at least 2 accounts, if you want to start flying capitals (and especially supers)

So let's see..

Skyrim
Serious Sam 3
BF3
MW3
Minecraft
Saints Row 3
PLEX prices
stale null-sec
ISK inflation because of incursions
Some bitterness left for the 3 years that CCP didn't 'cared' about EVE.

Jokes aside those all sound like valid reasons. Well, the novelty of those games will pass.. null-sec might see some changes since supers wont be the H-Bombs they have been so far, anomaly changes might put a little more money on the average grunt's pocket..

TBH though, i think that someone has pointed out in the past that Crucible really won't be the be-all-end-all expansion. It will set a standard, sure, but i do believe that the place where CCP really needs to shine is with the summer expansion. Putting a good expansion although not common, is not surprising.. since they did it before with Apocrypha. However, putting two or more good expansions in a row will go a long.. loong way in earning not only the trust of lost players again, but will result in good publicity from those players that might gain a renewed love for the game. And that will bring more subscribers.

As some here have pointed out, there are still issues that won't be adressed in this expansion. CCP knows which issues those are, so they pretty much already have a good portion of the game plan laid out for them. So i really hope they give more love for the summer exp than they have for Crucible.

1. Subs =/= concurrent users. I have resubbed 5 alts since crucible details came out. 4 out of the 5 are only training skills til l there is something to fight over. They will appear in CCP's bottom line but not online.

2. November 2011 has had a number of new games released that all will impact on online users but not necessarily on active account numbers.

3. Trust is easy to destroy and hard to rebuild. Some players I know and communicate with regularly are waiting for proof that CCP are ;prepared to deliver before forking out the bucks.

No, but they've been pretty much completely correlated for the entirety of EVE history so one is a sufficiently reliable indicator of another if you look at (maybe) weekly or (definitely) monthly averages.

Help me make my graphs look that nice? EVE-Offline looks like crap...

/c
That's ok — the xslt I use to convert that graph data into CSV looks like crap too because I couldn't be bothered to think about how to do it intelligently… brute-force ftw P

As for the graph, that's just Excel 2011 fed with said CSV files.

You can feed CSVs to the MS Graph wizard as a COM object via ASP or ASP.NET. Can use an XML transform to scrub the data, may have to build that part. Worst case you can use biz server to run it, use an MSDN copy or something.

Oh, and save the graph as a PDF for display, print to PDF etc, from Excel COM. Think there are some print to JPG and print to PNG drivers out there too, but they're not MS products.

That's the eve-offline data presented in a more comparable format — weekday by weekday, and only the daily PCUs — to get rid of some of the noise you get from Chribba's full-data formatting.

Any chance you could push that back a bit more for a 2-year graph?

Skyrim and Battlefield 3

The new patch for Terraria is coming out on the 1st!! yay!

These things are pretty momentary, though inconvenient to ccp's goal of getting a new max user count. That said I think everyone is pretty happy with the changes ccp is making, and I think it will be successful in preventing further hemoraging of players caused by the last two years of neglect.

Success for this expansion means regaining trust, and buying time for them to make a real expansion like Apocrypha, which I think is where they need to get to really reinvigorate growth.
