Felt like bringing up the XL-SMA again to CCP.

Go there and confirm this for all of us.

Didn't they make it a bannable exploit to access an SMA from outside pos shields if you're not allowed in pos shields?

There's nothing worse than an EVE player, generally considered to be top of the food chain in the MMO world, that cannot smacktalk with wit and coherency.

The closest thing I found is an update on bumping.

Exploit Notification - Starbase Forcefield Ship Bumping

By CCP Falcon

Bumping ships, that are located within password protected starbase force-fields, out of the force-field from outside without having the correct password or corporation/alliance permissions as configured in the tower settings, is considered an exploit.

Attempts to bypass the game mechanics of starbase force-fields are fully visible in server logs to CCP Games’ staff and will result in appropriate action taken against the involved user accounts as per the EVE Online Suspension and Ban Policy from here on.

Pro tip:

In order to prevent problems with ships being bumped out of a starbase force-field from inside, by accident or by intention by players with legitimate access, owners are advised to park them in Ship Maintenance Arrays. X-Large Ship Maintenance Arrays were made available without the need for sovereignty with the Odyssey expansion so this option should be available to everyone.

That doesn't have anything to do with this unfortunately. I've brought it up to CCP multiple times, and will continue to do so.

Apparently its so big (How big is it) that even in a large POS there is no place to put it that is far enough from the shields, allowing someone to be able to access it from outside the shield.

Its not that it sticks out of the shields. But is close enough to the edge, because its so big, that someone can get within "access vessel" range to open it and take out ships.

Sureley they need the correct roles to do this?

We have several people with proper roles to do this. But part of our personal asset security is to put up private/shared POSs. So people in my corp can open an sma but because pos passwords are used cant just get into anyones pos and steal things. This XLSMA has a bug so you don't need a password because you can access it from outside pos shields.

They do, but the only roles you can restrict on are "Config Equipment" and "Config Starbase Equipment" (which conveniently also allows you to offline everything). XL-SMAs basically nullify the idea of private POSes.

they can basically only be used by directors or people you trust to have config starbase. And people whop have that role can already just have 20 SMAs they can offline/online as needed so it gets nowhere.

For clarity sake: he means the only roles are Starbase Fuel Manager, and Config Starbase Equiment. Starbase fuel manager is a safe role to dole out for this. My advice? If you can't trust them to be starbase fuel level and not steal everything out of shared hangars, they probably shouldn't be in your corp. Takes a lot longer to recruit that way, but you make longer lasting connections.

You can position the large sma. No matter where you put it snaps into one of the 8 default places closest. If that makes sense.
