Self-Destruct and get an insurance payout?

What insurance company would ever pay someone who willingly destroys their car, home, or internet spaceship? I've never done this in Eve, but I found out today that Eve's insurance pays out. Is this true?

Gankers who intentionally destroy their own ships (in a criminal act) don't deserve a payout, but I would argue no one deserves a payout for the willful destruction of their own ship.

Thoughts?

It's a good thing that the insurance in eve is nothing like real insurance. If it was PvPrs would not be able to insure a ship ever.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

Put in that restriction and people will just start shooting them with alts or intentionally suiciding them at pos shield edges

I think you're taking insurance too seriously.

I also think that it is impossible for the game to determine willful destruction, so it shouldn't try to. I can warp to a belt and go afk, and no one could tell that i wasn't trying to survive.

Also, insurance did used to pay out for suicides.

this is a point.. you should not get insurance for self destructing(high low null and wspace) nor "illegal activities"(suicide ganking) in highsec.

On two occasions, we found freighters just before their wardec goes active. So we hold them in place by going GCC and bumping. Minutes before the wardec, they initiate self-destruct, avoid the loss on the wardec, and claim the insurance.

Smart move on their part.

So basically you're mad about not getting those freighters counted in your wardec stats?

Insurance for suicide ganking was removed years ago.

The OP makes a great point, they should get rid of insurance altogether.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.
