Constantly freezing up

I have experienced the crashing issues for quite some time, the game freezes, even my full OS freezes up.

What I have seen is that as soon as I reduce to software's open in the background, like torrent, Spotify, VLC and others it almost disappears completely, especially utorrent is causing a lot of issues. It also looks like since I run in window mode, freezing has completely vanished and I am running Eve on Mac without any freezes since then (~1month now).

Since late last night, after Midnight EST, the client froze, crashed and hasn't started-up properly since.

I have re-installed the app, used the EVE Online Repair.app to repair anything that may be wrong with the installation. Still having problems.

My client just froze up four times within the space of ten minutes. I'm running it windowed, and it seems to happen a lot if I focus on other windows.

Although if I leave it for a while it'll freeze up too.

Help? I'm worried I'm going to lose a ship to this soon.

i experienced the same issue since new patch rubicon 1.1 in conjunction with OSX Maverics.

I played around with graphic preferences.

Now seems to work with:

Use multithreaded Open GL checked
Interval two
window mode

Graphic Settings:

resource cache enabled
AA set to medium
post processing on low
Shader: medium
shadow quality low

the rest on high

turns out in around 60 FPS

System:
MBP Retina, Mid 2012
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
OS X 10.9.1

i think it generally has something to do with the shaders.... you have to do the graphic settings in character screen, not in game
and look into your firewall and privacy preferences on your mac

try out and tell me if it worked

I have found a solution that stops all freezing for me. I was freezing up multiple times a session and I have now gone weeks without a single freeze.

After disabling EVE Voice (under Audio & Chat) I no longer freeze up.

I made this change when Rubicon was released and I was unsure what was the solution to the issue. As a test I re-enabled EVE voice and I started freezing again.

My specs: 10.8.4 with Nvidia 285 GTX

I just did a fresh install of Eve on my new MacBook after a few years hiatus. Had the constant freeze, but this fixed it, thanks!

Mine is crashing every time I try to play since Rubicon 1.1 patch. Completely locks up the system. It was running great prior to that patch.

Pretty annoying since it was working fine before the patch :-(

Mac Mini Lion. 16Gb of RAM i7 HD 4000 constant freezing can't seem to go a minute without a lock up.

Tried resetting and lowering all my settings with no luck. Full screen and windowed freezes (full screen locks up my computer).

The client used to freeze every once in a while last year, I just came back to the game to find that is worse than ever.

I guess I can just train skills until it's fixed.

edit: even training skills took 6-7 lockup, re-logins.

I have this issue as well. Generally if I start playing in the morning I can go a while hours even without an issue, but when the issue starts I have to shut down my computer and let everything cool down (about 15 minutes) and then try again before it gets good. I do not have this issue when EVE is not running so the game is running hotter than it use too causing the crashes imo.

2009 13" Macbook Pro NVIDIA Geforce 9400M 4GB RAM. I have tried tweaking my shader settings to all low etc but it continues to freeze the entire computer.

My game freezes after the character selection. My ship is in warp for a few seconds and then the client freezes and I have to restart my computer.

Game is fine if I am in a station but as soon as I undock, the whole game freezes and I have to reboot my computer. (The display freezes but the ingame music is still playing in the background)

Everything was working fine until the recent 1.1.2 update.

First time I've ever had a problem after today's update - can't get to the character select screen.

Checked the system console, it's full of:

"04/02/2014 12:42:41.000 kernel[0]: NVDA(OpenGL): Channel exception! exception type = 0xd = GR: SW Notify Error"

Congrats, you're sending invalid info through to the gpu driver, this almost never ends well. I'll sic dtrace on it and find out exactly what's messed up if I get time.

I had the same issue, I know what causes the bug and i submitted already a bug report, but as usual it will not get adressed in the next 100 years. The station models were changed the last patch, which causes a graphics bug, making the grid and the graphics freeze.

Workaround: Open the map window, undock and warp away, close map -> solved, currently this happens to me only at gallente kickoff stations, and on avatar titans (funny^^) U can get lucky when u clicked dock before u warped to the station, as the character dockes although u dont see anything on grid, letting the computer freeze for 30 secs or so, then as soon as the game realized u are docked, it is fine again.

Please fix this issues with graphics CCP, and don't make them worse.... It is nice to improve graphics and models, but most of the time it screw's up more then good

I downloaded the patch today, attempted to logon with the Eve Launcher. Game gets to the character selection screen for login, the screen goes black, and then the computer locks up, requiring a hard shut down of my Mac. This was only an issue after the last patch.

I have already cleared my cache and had same results. Petition filed. Anyone know anything... workarounds... if they are 'fixing' the fix... or anything?

Tanks alot.

So in the short term some more information about this bug would really help me:

1) Are you playing in windowed mode?
2) Are you playing in fullscreen and CMD + Tab'ing?
3) What is the specification of your machine?
4) What version of OS X are you using?

Lastly if some of you could make bug reports with cider logs, it would help me greatly.

Now I want to try to clarify some terminology for CCP/GM and the End Users to try to narrow down what is actually happening. Many of these “freezing” an End User might call:

  • Graphical Freeze = meaning the Video has locked up in game client but the MAC is still usable. Character is still in Game Probably getting killed. (Control-Alt-Esc > Kill Process).

  • Unresponsive Freeze = Cant not type, Click, change directions or open Windows in Game. Character is still in game Probably getting killed. (Control-Alt-Esc > Kill Process).

  • Semi-Unresponsive = You can type, open windows, show info, BUT nothing updates and can no longer navigate. Can not Quit Client for a Large Number of Minutes (Appears to be “Hanging”). User may not realize the Client is not updating when sitting in station for a Large number of Minutes. (Socket Closed or internet interrupted, but Client does not recognize this state and you may never see the Socket Closed pop up window.) (Character is no longer in game and could have gotten killed.) This one Also Can Cause the need to reboot the MAC to clear its EVE state even if you kill the processes. Can prevent Client from Launching. (Control-Alt-Esc > Kill Process & if needed reboot).

  • Closed Socket = Client recognizes Lost of Connection to CCP. Quit Client. Rare occasions may have to kill process.

  • Page Fault = OS pop up warning. I am not an expert and do not know what this means. Some People think it means a Hard Drive maybe failing as one possible cause. How ever My HD passes all Tests including permissions. My System Memory Passes all Test. (Sometimes after closing the Page fault message Box I can still play other times it closes the Eve Client.)

  • Apple Detects Serious Error = OS pop up warning. I do not know what could be the cause. I have copied Logs and Debug report. Causes the EVE Client to Close.

I experience all of the Above Intermittently.

I do not use Clone Maker But I do multi Log-in using same EVE Online Launcher. These Graphical Freezes, Unresponsiveness, Closed Sockets, Page Faults occur regardless if I am running one client or multi clients. One Client session might experience the issues while other client sessions are unaffected.

I stagger my Windowed mode clients and can just click between them in window, Top Bar, or Dock. I do not CMD + Tab. I run my Clients at the Lowest graphical settings possible, lower than for performance presets. My Monitors run at 2560 x 1600 while the Clients are set at 1920 x 1440.

I will admit that clicking between clients in the Window Interface can cause weird things to happen, so I usually switch between them on title Bar or Dock.
