I haven t played for 3 years so basically I forgot everything.

I would like to build a skill set and ship to be able to sneak and avoid people trying to kill me as much as possible and just do exploration and move around. What skill set and ship + gear would you recommend I focus on?

I want to avoid being raped by people trying to get a easy kill (since I am a noob). Is there a way to play fill defense and be able to jump away without being locked down etc even if you never fight and just have means to escape.

Please let me know if that is possible and what tactics would you recommend

Thanks in advance

The first thing you can aim for: Covert Ops frigates (For Gallente: Helios).

Eventually as a longer (and more expensive) goal can be a cloaky T3 made for exploration (Gallente: Protheus).

Just keep in mind, if people really want to, they can and will shoot/kill you. It just depends on how much they want you dead.

A covops ship gets a bonus to many of the exploration professions, although it is usually ineffective at combat.

There is no such thing as a ship that can always evade hostiles. Covops do a very good job, as they can warp while cloaked. A bubble will prevent them from warping, and even pull them out of warp away from their destination if they don't take precautions. This means they have vulnerabilities that may result in your doom. The Asteros is a moderately expensive combat centers exploration ship with bonuses similar to Covops.

Once you have the isk and skills, you can utilize a Strategic Cruiser. With the right subsystems, it too can warp cloaked, and also can be "interdiction nullified" to ingore the effects of bubbles. That makes these ships very hard to catch when you are moving about.

Truth be told though, all of these ships are potentially vulnerable to targeted warp disruption, where if someone surprises you at a site, they may tackle you and kill you. You can try to fit warp core stabs to still get away, and this will work often, but it isn't a 100% sure thing.

What worries me is, correct me if I am wrong, but what I hope does not happen is:
- You jump to a gate on your way somewhere
- People are waiting for you
- There is nothing you can do and get seriously ganked

I would like to know if it is possible to avoid these. For example I remember that you can be stealthed/invisible when getting to a gate but that you could also be forced out of stealth by other players.

So what I worry is building something only to jump into a trap where you can t do anything...does that happen and how do you mediate this? Can you always stay cloaked and slowly move away so that people don t see you?

With a cloaking module cloak, if anything comes within 2.000 m you are automatically decloaked because of proximity factors.
If you are target locked by anybody, you can't cloak.
You can't activate any module while cloak is active.

So there are ways to decloak you.
There will be people utilizing the above to hunt you.

If they want you dead you will be dead. If not at this gate than at next one or next time you log in or that one time you forget to activate your cloak or you will be busy with minigame and forget to click d-scan to see combat probes in space. You will die and as a newbie you will die a lot simply because you don't know all things people can and will do to get you.

Of course anybody can learn how to minimize losses and in time you will learn too. There are youtube videos explaining how to survive in lowsec/null or wormholes - watch them all, even older ones because some things didn't change (making tactical bookmarks at gates, avoidance of drag bubbles, etc.).

Also watch tutorials on combat probing - if you know how they hunt you will know what to do to avoid being caught.

And start small, with cheap t1 exploration frigate and get used to that feeling that everybody wants to kill you. And practice all things you read and watched about avoiding of being killed. Believe me, when you are in system where all others are flashy red they will try to get you no matter how cheap your ship is and how newbie you are. I know this because I do it. Venture, ibis, dominix - doesn't matter what you fly I will d-scan you and if I need I will put combat probes in space and if you don't pay attention I will find you and I will try to kill you. And I am terrible at everything in Eve.

Also, do not be afraid of losing ships, they are just tools you use to get job done. You can always buy another or fly cheaper one for a while and accumulate funds for replacement. If you don't put all you money into that one ship you will always have something to get by until funds allow you to get back on your feet.

If you are in a covert ship, you jump through a gate suddenly find a gate camp itching to blast your ship, you can still live.
1.) Don't Panic. You have 60 seconds of gate cloak, so take that time to find a celestial that you can align to that takes you away from the gate.

2.) Hit "Align To". Do not hit warp to, but hit align to. If you hit warp to, and they put up a bubble, your ship Stops moving. If you hit align to, and they put up a bubble, your ship keeps moving.

3.) After hitting align to, immediately hit your cloak device (once). Make sure 10 seconds have passed since you entered system before doing this, as if you do it immediately, it is possible you'll still have a cloak reactivation delay that prevents your cloak.

4.) After hitting your cloak, immediately hit your microwarp drive. This actually increases your align time every so slowly, but makes your ship fastly move away from where the hostiles on grid last saw you. This makes it harder for them to decloak you, and allows you to get away more quickly.

5.) As your ship is speeding towards that celestial you chose to align to, hit warp. If you are in a bubble, hit warp as soon as you clear the bubble. Hell, spam warp as you are leaving the bubble, and you'll warp as soon as you reach the edge.

6.) If you really don't think you can escape the bubbled area without getting decloaked, perform the same procedures as steps 1-5, but align toward the gate you just came in from. And as they power to decloak you, spam the MWD button so you start mwding to the gate as soon as you become decloak. Once you are at the gate, jump through back to "safety".

This isn't completely true. After you cloak you have a 2 second window to activate modules on your ship (DCU's, Hardeners, and most commonly, a microwarp). However, after about 2 seconds, your ship is considered fully cloaked and you can no longer activate modules (and those that are activated will turn off after their cycle ends).
