I don t understand why it is not possible to switch/log off a character without quitting the game all together and launching it again.
Not very user friendly

I should buy an Ishtar.

Not this again. Sorry, you are far from the first to ask, and likely won't be the last

Yes, we know it's stupid.
Yes, CCP does know it too.

No, it can't be changed, because the server does load a lot of information when you initially load the character you choose.
You can't switch while staying logged in because of this. If you have to switch characters, you have to purge the client<->server connection by logging out.

This knowledge is brought to you by reading a CCP reply on this forum somewhere, but I can't find the post anymore.

This is one of the most commonly requested features to add to the game, but CCP hasn't been able to implement it do to technical reasons.

Short version:

The code was initially written without people thinking this might be a requirement. (a bit over 10 years ago)

It's been built on, with the understanding that the user will not change.

Giving the ability to change it requires making sure there are no hidden places where it stores who you are, anywhere in the code. This is expensive (time wise), for a fairly limited pay off.

Of course, what you can do now is just start up the client again from the launcher, without needing to log in again. Not so good for multiboxers, though they're working on making the launcher more useful for us too.

Woo! CSM XI!

A good metaphor for EvE's source code.

It 'was' a part of the client. It was removed due to data corruption and exploitation.

The official statement was it will take months of peoples time to save players 3s it takes to quit and press play on the launcher again.. or something like that...

TLDR Big work, minimal benefit
