Legion vs Paladin

So, I'm having difficulty in deciding between skilling for a Legion or a Paladin.

The main purpose is for missions, ratting, exploration, wormholes, and just in general blowing things up.

Legion will take roughly 30 days to skill into

Paladin will take roughly 90 days to skill into

Toss on additional training time to max skills and train to use these effectively, though I've got a decent chunk of that done already.

Pros and Cons as I see them,

Legion:

Pros:

Flexible, good tank

Con:

No real ability to salvage, cruiser DPS (albeit very good cruiser DPS)

Paladin:

Pros:

The skills bonuses are just more my thing. Ability to salvage. BS DPS. Drones.

Cons:

Besides being a BS and being a little clunky, I see none at this time.

And, never having flown a T3 cruiser, so I don't know, but how do Battlecruisers compare to them?

I feel that long term, I'll get more use out of the Paladin for what I want to do. But I just don't really know at this point. So, any advice is appreciated!

Oh, and I see alot of Tengu is better than XXX, so let me say this. I am open to suggestions, but so far all of my skills and weaponry have been more geared towards flying Amarr. I started Minmatar, saw a Punisher one day, and it just went from there.

I wouldn't get exited about drones on a paly.

in highsec id say you may get more use out of it though.
i cant fly a t3 so my opinion on them is moot but i think you'd get more use out of one in low/null/wh space, the thought of bringing a marauder out there...

baisicly train for both.

the marauder will provide you with a solid income so id probably go for that first.

Paladin is a marauder and designed for salvaging its own missions. Good damage output and can fit the bastion mod (which has its own pros and cons)
Its a good all round mission runner. Never flown a legion myself.
Personally whenever I mission I have a separate account flying Noctis and use other ships for the missions that can apply more dps and achieve the job quicker.
It's all about speed ;)

paladin for missions, legion for everything else.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I often use a Legion for level 4 missions vs. EM weak NPC (Rogue Drones, Blood Raiders, Sansha).

The Legion is best used with short-range pulse weapons, which means you have to do a lot of moving around, even when using Scorch. Doing missions with long range weapons is a lot easier and faster.

The Legion currently is rather anaemic in the damage department, which is very noticeable vs. battleships. However, the Legion is an amazing frigate and cruiser killer, which is almost enough compensation.

I've never used a Paladin, though I have used a Golem and Vargur. I never really gave the paladin any thought until this post, as a tachyon Nightmare is my usual first thought for a mission laser-based battleship, or a Rattlesnake for drones.

Skilling for Strat Cruisers means boosting overall cruiser performance, and cruisers are the workhorses of Eve. Battlehips, on the other hand, are not used nearly as much, and the need to excel with them is not generally high.
You'll have more options and versatility as a side-effect of training for the Legion.

If you want to run missions or do incursions then the Paladin easily trumps the Legion, if you want to do other stuff then there's probably better ships for it than a Legion.

Both are relatively expensive ships for use in PVP.

I'd experiment with an assault frigate and a combat battlecruiser (not an attack battlecruiser) first. See which you prefer.

If you like the faster, nimble assault frigate, then you'll prefer the Legion.

If you like the tougher, slower battlecruiser, you'll probably prefer the Marauder.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

Pala is better for purely pve in a no risk environment.

Strat cruiser will unlock all sorts of possibilities, you will be able to plug in skillbooks for an array of t2 cruisers, which like someone else said are the work horses of eve.

So imo go for the Legion! It will earn you more than enough ISK to so something enjoyable in Eve. ISK is a means, not an end, after all.

If you are open to cross training and not some kind of amarr roleplayer, I would go for the gallente t2 and t3 before the amarr ones. Gallente has a very strong line up in their cruisers, espeically their Heavy Assault Cruisers, which are kinda O.P. in the current meta.

I'll agree with the general consensus and say : Paladin.

The DPS of the paladin and the associated tank will fare better in all missions than the legion.

And with the legion, webs and neuts can get hairy, especially if you are inexperienced with flying a Legion, which since you apparently cant fly one yet, is obviously the case.

Legions work great in WH space. If you are looking at exploration of any kind, i would lean toward the Legion.

Obtain some more general knowledge about these two ships and realize they really dont overlap eachother for many purposes at all. Eve uni website ftw <3

The Paladin is an awesome workhorse for L4 missions vs Sanshas and (to a lesser degree) Serpentis. It is solid, reliable, and you will bring in about 30% higher ISK/hr over a Legion: it would be about 100% due to DPS (and the fact it doesn't have to move in order to shoot everything), but you lose out on travel time. The Paladin is not nimble, so it gets into warp slowly, it has a slower warp speed.

The Legion is a nimble laser boat. You will have far more fun (which admittedly evolves into tedium after a while) flying a Legion in L4 missions than flying a Paladin.

For exploration, if you have the money for a Legion why not try a Stratios instead?

I'm using mine in caldari space, it's fine v gurristas ,providid you use tycoon s (heavy thermal) .
You would be surprised how Farr you can push optimal range on close range crystal s with fairly little effort .
yes I know there are more efficient ships v gurristas/angles but I think the paladin is one of the best looking ships at the moment, which matters for some.

That said ,the legion is the next best looking ship imo an I'm actually training for one now.

I doubt you'll regret either choice.

Guristas and Serp are fine as long as you use Tachyons with MF or Gleam.
