Just gonna inquire about this as I noticed this particular part of the latest dev post from Fozzie;

Quote:
The definition of an eligible team at this time is a team that has at least 8 members and has paid their 5 plex deposit.
The majority of teams currently have more than the maximum of 12 members on their roster, which means that they will need to cut their roster down to 12 at a later point. We will be in contact with the team captains to ensure they are able to reduce their teams to size.

Which states that only 12 Members should be on the team roster, and that the majority of rosters are over subscribed.
Which hints that 'members' = Characters

The initial sign up text hints that you can have 12 members on your team, with each member using multiple accounts if they have the desire to - which suggests 'members' = RL Players
Quote:
You may have as many of your characters in a single team as your captain allows. For example, if you own 5 EVE Online accounts with three characters on each there are no restrictions on how many of those characters can be in a single team. If you feel you can multibox your way to victory against some very dedicated teams then more power to you.

Can we get some clarification on this please? As I'm guessing this is the reason why the majority of teams are over-full

Thanks,
SnK

You can have a maximum of 12 characters on a team. Those characters can belong to as many as 12 RL players or as few as 1.

We'll be getting in contact with the captains to ensure that everything is clear and help people get their teams to the correct size, everyone will be given time to make the adjustments necessary.

But that isn't how this rule was stated in the original dev blog.

Taken from the official devblog:

You may have as many of your characters in a single team as your captain allows. For example, if you own 5 EVE Online accounts with three characters on each there are no restrictions on how many of those characters can be in a single team. If you feel you can multibox your way to victory against some very dedicated teams then more power to you.

From it is very clear that you can have as many characters as you want, as long as the number of players piloting these characters are less than 12.

This change especially this late changes a lot of things. A lot of teams don't have dedicated 150m characters with leadership skills. You can't drop this now, 1 month before the tourney. All our setups, practices were based on having multiple characters each.

I hope this rule can be modified, because frankly it doesn't make sense to do this now.

Here is a quote from the first devblog on the tournament:

Now for the changes. We are reducing the maximum team size from 24 characters down to 12 characters.

I cannot honestly imagine how you could think that from reading both what you quoted and the original devblog that a team could have more than 12 characters on it.

The meaning is 100% clear you must have just failed to read thoroughly enough.

+1 to what Seldarine said ...

What irks me a bit though, is that the original announcement dev blog is no longer public (you can technically still google it, but..), and there is not a single line stating a team must have 12 characters in the rules/specifics blog. I can see how someone could have come up with the conclusion that alts are allowed ...

Well, I hope everyone affected can figure out whom to scratch until the midnight - you definitely don't need 150M skillpoint chars to be competetive, as long as you have a decent tactic or two to field, and a FC with a good plan.

Good luck.

Yes thank you for stating that it was clear in the dev blog that was posted 9 days ago, The very same reason I came here.

"You may have as many of your characters in a single team as your captain allows." I must be bad at English but this clearly states "as many characters in a single team", how was that it obvious.

"if you own 5 EVE Online accounts with three characters on each there are no restrictions on how many of those characters can be in a single team." Can you tell me what 5x3 is? It is 15, in his example he stated that you can use at least 15 characters, and what part about "no restrictions" did I not understand?

Trouble is the new meta seems to be command ships with links, that can do both be combat effective and do links at the same time, and a lot of pvp characters don't have them on the same character, because this is relatively a new thing. One way we overcame this hurdle was having multiple characters (and we barely did). This changes a lot.

Well you have a leeway of 4 characters. The matches have a maximum of 8 characters and your team can have 12.

Most average skill point frigate and cruiser pilots have the ability to fly multi-race, and with the way the points are it is unlikely you are going to have many more than 3 or 4 large, more skill intensive ships, so you can still have alts to cover some bases.

This is not new. The tournaments have always had lots of command ships with all kinds of links and guns at the same time.

Still waiting on contact to finalize our roster. I'd really like to take care of this soon, before other issues start to make demands on my attention.

As few as one? BAHAHAHHAhAHhhahaAHHaha

if you see what i did there.

Actually it never occurred to me until now, i just finalized my roster via ingame and it asked me for my 12 member roster, however my team only has 8 characters total, i figured there was no rule that said you couldnt have fewer than 12, and 8 is the max allowed on grid anyway, i asked about that in my petition but in any case i imagine it won't be a problem.

(go team CUBE ) :D

oph- nvm i see it now, "at least 8 members" Ah good. Im in the clear
