Greetings fine folks of the MD forums.

I've been playing EVE for a few years now, mostly focused on trade and industry, with a bit of PVP on the side in RvB. So far, I've mostly been doing trading and manufacturing on my own, but I want to grow my operations in the future, and I'll likely need to work more and more with other industrialists.

But I'm also quite interested in giving piracy a try. I like the idea of PVP in an uncontrolled environment.

Would having a pirate alt cause a problem for my trader / industrialist characters? Is there anything I can do to maintain a trustworthy reputation (i.e. full disclosure of my activities, judicious use of auditing/escrow services, etc)?

I see no reason why it would. Piracy is not seen as in any way breaking the faith of your fellow capsulers.

Why would you have to let anyone know you have a pirate alt? Unless it happens to be on the same account and you are using your API key to get into another corp.

Besides I'm more pissed at the guy buying items at below their mineral cost than the guy in lowsec waiting patiently for me to wander over to where he lives.

If the alt is publically known, you may want to keep a reputation for honoring ransoms. That's really all.

'Piracy' is just a standard form of PvP. Unless you acquire a reputation for being an untrustworthy pirate there shouldn't be any problem at all, just as highsec players are fine unless they develop a reputation to the contrary.

There are two types of EVE player:

those who believe there are two types of EVE player and those who do not.

I wouldn't. However, my pirate alt has my trading/indy atls' corporation listed in his employment history. My pirate alt won't ever gain much notoriety, but it's just in the event that someone wants to do a check of my indy alts for corp membership or large

No, ESPECIALLY if that pirate alt isn't also a suicide ganker. In hisec especially its possible you'll run into people who hold their nose at "piracy." But that's also a pretty good sign the person you're dealing with has a poor grasp of the broader game. You don't need those people.

its more an issue of your pvp alt being in a member of a corporation that is likely to wardec, gank, or ransom people that are in the indy corp with your indy toons. If the indy corp you join is a sov-holding entity, they may get a bit pickier about who your alts are, but they'd object on the basis of the particular corp in question, not the notion of "piracy."
