Goonswarm Recuritment Scam Warning

The sole purpose of this thread is to aid newbies to avoid the marvellous Goonswarm Recruitment Scam and save their ISKies to buy stuff like ships and modules (or get scammed by someone else in EVE). Right away I'd like to state that I don't personally hate goons, in fact they are good for lulz and killmails, it's that I just either have nothing to do at times with my alts talking to their "recruiters" (while bored, having a beer and a laugh at it).

FAQ or How To Prevent Goons From Owning Your Wallet (and possibly tips on how to own them instead):

Q. How do I identify if I am approached by a legitimate Goonswarm Recruitment Officer from the Recruitment Channel?
A: Look at the alliance name. If it has the word "goon" in it, it's a scam.

Q: I am asked to enter my full API key on http://goonfleet.net. What do I do?
A: Generally, copy the name of the "recruiter" into a reply to this thread and tell them to go outside. If you want to have a laugh though and troll them, and hopefully see more "recruitment officers", create an API key and select your noob/Jita alt in the "Characters" dialog box (make sure that alt has less than 10M in ISK on balance). Check everything except mail and transaction/wallet journal history. This will seriously screw up their system and give you a good laugh in the chat room.

Q: I am asked to pay a security deposit. Is this legit?
A: No.

Q: Will CCP/FBI/CIA/MI-6/MOSSAD/FSB/KGB protect me from the Goon Scam?
A: No.

If you would like to know which corp in goonswarm is presently doing this scam then mail me personally asking and i ll send you the exact forwaded email with a snapshot to prove its happening again.

They only approach through mail to people who are looking for new corp .

This post is exact same copy of the old post done by some other guy.

Name's are not taken in this post bkoz CCP will erase the name and lock the post saying it is against their rules.

Or...you could do a quick internet search on 'Goonswarm recruitment scam' and, oh I don't know, find the page where Goons tell you that if you pay ISK to join up you are being scammed?

Roll

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)

The page where goons tell you that you were being scammed is really hard to find though.
it is usually the 4th!!! option on most likely google searches and who would read that far?
Also the warning is hidden away at the top of the page in large red letters.

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85

Best join RvB.

I hear Goonswarm is now under their protection and Goons certainly wouldn´t dare scam a member of their new overlords....

There was a purge last year of recruiters in Goons scamming. It sounds like you've been approached by some rogue recruiters.

If anyone else runs into this, send an evemail to "the MIttani" describing how you were scammed and you will not only get a full refund, but the scammer will be kicked. Most Goon recruiters are completely honest, so most people won't have to go through this process.

See Bio for isk doubling rules. If you didn't read bio, chances are you funded those who did.

Oh, ok.

I must have been confused by the big red letters on Goonwaffe's recruitment site that say if you paid money to join you got scammed. This must imply it happens rather often.

My mistake. It happens.

It is pretty straight forward.

anyone who would want to join goons deserves to be scammed. They are trash..

If you can fly capitals and super caps, there really is no better place to be. Hell, if you can fly a titan, you should find a recruiter asap. In most alliances you join, if you lose one of these, you probably won't get reimbursed because you'll be in the midst of a failcascade. But with Goons, you'll have a shiny new ship waiting for you. They'll even help you move these assets safely to their space.

I just see this as a no-brainer honestly.
