Is this still being used?

Pardon me for asking this, but is Margin Trade Scams still a thing or is that something not possible anymore? The only link I could find in the search function is this. This is something I have been meaning to try out as an experiment but I need to make sure if this is still considered legal gameplay or if CCP now labeled it an exploit.

I have no idea if it is officially considered an exploit, but it is certainly still being used.

How come you can find a old locked thread but cannot find any up to date threads??
It is not an exploit

Oddly enough, I've run into that issue many times. For some reason, old forum threads seem to come up first in all of my searches.

It works. There is some discussion in CCP of changing Margin Trading in a way that would kill off MT scams, which would make me a sad panda as many of the MT scammers are among the most interesting people in trade hubs to chat with.

I support the New Order and CODE. alliance. www.minerbumping.com

It is still being used a lot. Sometimes you can see a few trying to sell their T2 Ammo while having a BO with monthly amounts and 500% overpriced.

My oppinion is that people are getting smarter. Margin Trading scams are too obvious.

Doing proper business since 2008.

I'm sure people are still getting falling to this scam regularly. We had an interesting conversation with a well known scammer in Amarr a few weeks ago, and she laid it out plainly (and I'm paraphrasing): "Everyone knows I'm a scammer, yet people get caught in my scams all the time".

I see people spamming Margin Scams in local in all the major trading hubs. Still a very common scam.

Margin scams have always been obvious.

Most people I know who have fallen for them didnt pick them up from local, but from places like Eve Central

Use Google, with the key being to do a new-forum site search, optionally with a date thrown in [Google seems to weight search terms from left to right]:

site:forums.eveonline.com 2014.01.26 "margin trading"

The forum search also returns results in newest to oldest order.

Old threads came up first before the new ones for some reason. It gave me the false impression that the topic somehow died off. I guess I was wrong.

Thanks for the update, guys. Nice to know this old tactic is still legal.

Confirming that still is use. Never been scammed myself (before tear accusations) but I think its an exploit.

Being a d**k on the market, why not... But listing inexistant orders is wrong. The margin trading scam seems just as wrong as if you could force a contract to show wrong numbers, for instance.

There is a difference between abusing someone's lack of attention, and abusing people by basically making their UI lie to them.
The mere fact that you can list non-existant buy orders sounds wrong in a "serious business" economical environment like eve.

To observe margin trading scams in action, head to any trade hub (such as Jita or Amarr) and look at stuff posted in local that have text like "hanger cleanout" or "officer mod" or "look at this fail contract/buy order". All of them will have some thinly traded item (usually officer modules) and there will be a "buy" order for a crazy amount. The smarter scammers make sure that no other modules are for sale in any other hub.

CCP wants to quash the margin trading scam. Not because they hate it, but because they don't think faulty buy orders should be a thing. They don't know the right way to go about this while still keeping margin trading possible.

They do not consider it an exploit.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

I see. I guess it's right for them to not consider it an exploit at the moment. God knows how many capsuleers they have to ban if they do consider it as such.Lol

That's like trying to arrest every resident in Colorado for pot possession. Not gonna happen. LOL
