MTU Behavior

Just out of curiosity, would anyone else like to see MTUs changed so they go for the farthest wreck first instead of the closest? This would eliminate the amusing-but-annoying 'ping-pong' behavior when you drop two near each other and they simply transfer the same 2 or 3 wrecks back and forth. I don't actually use MTUs all that often, but it would be a nice quality of life change.

On the other hand, maybe this behavior was intentional?

Maybe . . . just maybe . . . now bear with me here . . . you don't put down 2 MTUs.
I believe that putting two mobile tractor units is counter intuitive in their current state of function, but I do see your point where if this feature was implemented like your idea then placing multiple tractor units can speed up the clearing of a field. However I believe CCP designed it the way they did because, like they have said before, they are meant to be slow and not a replacement to a dedicated salvage ship or ships with tractor modules and salvage modules.

Problem solved.

Edited to provide a positive step that others may debate in a serious manner so that we may better promote and solve the issue at hand.

The 3 posts above demonstrate exactly why the EVE-O forums are considered the cesspool of the EVE community, and why no intelligent people with creative ideas post more than a handful of times before leaving forever.

Blame goes to the moderators, they aren't doing their jobs. It's always the same group of trolls/elitists in every thread too; like it's so hard to ban a small group of people. Ah well.

Maybe that's because creative ideas are meant for the Features and Ideas forum.

Your response to him is sarcastic and pretty much rude. Can't you communicate that idea without showing disrespect? There-in lies one of the biggest issues: Person A presents a somewhat reasonable issue in a polite manner. Person B, C and D sarcastically disrespect the poster's intelligence. Why? I thought we were adults, but seems only Person A is.

Uh oh, you're gonna get censored for talking about forum moderation! And by definition, a troll is someone doing something to elicit a negative response just for the pleasure of doing so. There was nothing trollish about those posts above. First reply was giving honest advice, second was trying to be humorous, and the third was just some hooligan that wandered in... so yeah, no one was trolling, but they will be now since you commented.

But person A doesn't even read the basic rules of the forums before posting something. If he was really intelligent (or had any common sense) he would have read that posts like these belong in the Features and Ideas forum.

This is just a game, you're acting like this is real life . . . if you take it personally you're doing it wrong.

If you really want to get technical in saying that only person A has intelligence, then you (not being person A) is also just a rowdy 16 year old because you are one of the B-Z people.

Let me reword my point.
I'm not saying you guys are being offensive or personally insulting, nothing like that. I'll create a scenario to illustrate my issue with the communications here:

Scenario 1:
Quote:
Person A:
"Hmm, it says X is causing Y. Wouldn't it be nice if we could have Z change as a result?"

Person B:
"You know... you could always... HMMM... I DUNNO.... not do X?"


Scenario 2:

Person A:

Person B:
"I believe this mechanic is working properly; if X did not cause Y, it will create a new problem "Z". My suggestion would to be to not do X if a Y result bothers you"


It is my belief that scenario 2 makes for far better discussion, advancement of ideas, and promotion of users posting ideas and concerns of theirs. It is my belief that scenario 1 has the opposite affect. Scenario 2, people will look to come up with the correct conclusion. Scenario 1, people will look to defend their side at all costs.

When people actually do come up with good ideas and place them in the correct subforum this is actually the conversation that takes place, believe it or not. Its just 99% of the time the post doesn't have good ideas and/or isn't in the right subforum.

Simpler solution would be to have the MTU ignore objects already being tractored, whether by another MTU or by a ship.

Hmm, not sure, since I use the MTU on my noctis along with my salvage drones, and they both work on the closest wrecks first, where I thus target the farthest wrecks. If suddently the MTU would target the farthest wrecks it wouldn't be in sync with the drones anymore.

While I agree with both of the above, I should also point out that people turn bitter and sarcastic often because the same threads are often repeated and often have very obvious reasons why the point being made has flaws.

The threshold of patience with people lowers the more often the same suggestion is made and the more obvious the solution or lack of it is.

In short, the perception of stupidity in others results in a reactionary statement, not aimed at making the other person feel bad per se but more to drive home the relative tedium that the post has caused. However, as is the norm on forums (and GD in particular), it is much more likely in any case that the creator of the thread will take the comments personally, and, rather than take it in a good nature, return the perceived vitriol, even where none exists.

In the forum of the blind, trollfood is self-perpetuating.

There really is no reason to remove mechanics that create a playfull environment. A dev stated that they are looking forward to creative, artistic use of multiple MTUs dragging things around.

You're asking for sometlhing that makes your game easier... and there's no reason for that. Speeding up the looting process with mulptiple MTUs benefits solely the mission runner and hurts the one trying to lure him into conflict ... and CCP made it for additional conflict, if you can remember.

Was thinking it would be nice to be able to alter its priorities. Say you're doing missions and you want it to pull the farthest first. Have it ignore empty wrecks and pull in everything else. Or if you're mining and you want it to ignore cans. Even go so far as have it set to pull in cans first, then full wrecks and the empty wrecks.

I think it was intentional. I've seen a lot of setups for MTU deployment, and there is a lot of competitive gameplay to be had with them. Wreck ping-pong can be avoided by destroying other MTUs and deploying your own 130km apart. You have to use violence to get what you want. That seems by design to me... I think, however, it might be cool to have higher-priced MTUs that can use multiple tractors, and thus manage more wrecks. Don't change the existing mechanic, expand on it, I say.

Personally I would like to see this change happen to the MTUs. Not even for the reason so I can put multiple down in the same room, but rather because it makes sense that you would want things that are very far away to get closer.

The things that are practically within salvaging range already don't need to be pulled closer.

This is esspecially annoying in a Marauder. I can tractor everything that's already within 40KM myself, I'd rather have the MTU tractor the things that are at 100KM closer.

So yeah, total support.
