No preamble, no satire (sorry) just a thought:

Sov is held by installing a sovereignty module in a Station; once installed, the station will establish sov for each system within five systems of the station system, or up to the point where another entity has already claimed sov. System upgrades are attached directly to this same station, and also have an effect on the neighboring five systems, with diminishing returns where applicable (industrial index for example). Other stations can be planted in neighboring systems, but cannot be fitted with a sov module.

When one of these core stations is attacked, it'll go into reinforcement after shields hit 25%; however, once its in reinforced mode, the other system upgrade modules are vulnerable. They don't have shields at all, just armor and structure - once an individual module is dropped to 25% armor, it too goes into reinforced mode, and also stops providing its intended benefits until it exits reinforced and gets repped back up.

For the station itself, once it exits shield reinforced it can be taken down into armor reinforcement at 25%, which causes a fundamental change to how the station operates. The station stops accepting docking requests (but will continue to allow ships to dock) and at the same time launches three remote repair devices via blind cyno to three random nearby systems where sov is already established. These three devices end up at a random point near the local sun in the three random nearby systems, and through "technology" begin collecting solar power from the nearby sun and storing it. After 24 hours, these three devices have collected enough solar power to activate a return cyno that will bring them back to the station they were deployed from, recharge the shields to 100%, and reset the station reinforcement timers (armor will need to be repped up from under the full shields)

While they are collecting their solar power, these devices are vulnerable to attack for an 8 hour period determined by the station owners (this timeframe cannot span server downtime, and the exact same timeframe is set for each device and runs concurrently); they have varying degrees of EHP but have no reinforcement stage. Each is also able to activate several defensive mechanisms, each with a little different flavor.

-One device has the ability to restrict stargate access to the system it is in, disrupting the ability for any ship larger than a cruiser (T3 or otherwise) to enter the system. It also cynojams the entire system, and disrupts the local star in a manner that results in W-space like effects for ships in the system, reducing shield/armor resistances for capital and supercapital ships by 99% and capacitor recharge rate on battleships and battlecruisers by 99%. These effects will not impact cruisers, destroyers or frigates. Lowest EHP of the three solar devices.

-The second device also cynojams the entire system, and disrupts the local star in a manner that results in W-space like effects for ships in the system, reducing shield/armor resistances for capital and supercapital ships by 99%. These effects will not impact any subcapital ships.

-The third device does not come with a systemwide cynojammer or alter the sun in a noticeable way, but has a very large pool of EHP.

If, at the end of the 24 hour period, two or more of the devices were destroyed, the sov module attached to the station that launched the devices will power down and sov will be dropped. Sov can be re-established by onlining a new sov module to the station once it exits armor reinforcement, but can also be claimed by the attackers if they drop their own deployable sov claiming device and online it first (this device is specifically designed for short term, offensive sov warfare, and must be replaced by a station-bound sov module within 72 hours or it two will drop sovereignty and render nearby systems open to be claimed by others).

I see were still on the "fix sov" portion of our lag whine recovery steps.



Soon, we will have acceptance.....until the next large fight.

oh lookedy at dat, awstrawlians all let us rejoice, we are free from the chains of being able to take SOV.

And here I was expecting some Jonathan Swift-ish humor. Leaving very disappointed.

Issues:

How do you claim sov in an area without a station? How do you claim sov in just one system?

Why would not the attacker blob the three systems one at a time? Everyone re-ships into the proper ships, invade one system, kill the solar harvester there, re-ship, repeat...? And the defenders respond by blobbing the attackers in that one system, thereby making a pile of lag?
