Mining is the worst thing you can do in EvE, James 315 is only trying to show you the light by extending his hand to lead you to the true form of EvE, to show you how fun EvE can really be if you chose another profession.

James 315 leads you to the water, and you refuse to drink. He shows you the path, and you refuse to take it. He extends his hand, and you spit in his face.

There is no wonder why so many in EvE online hate miners.

I think you got that wrong. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with mining. What's wrong is the AFK players, who find mining the easiest way to AFK. The AFK players put suspicion on all miners, hence the need for a Code that requires miners to be at their keyboard while mining.

The same is true of the use of autopilot. It's just as bad as a way to AFK the game and not play at all - and is also equally targeted by gankers under the Code.

The lack of play is what James is trying to correct, not mining per se.

Many new players believe that mining is a good way to make ISK. That's a huge problem, because not only they don't actually play (because who would sit there, looking at that laser while actually doing nothing?), they also make crap amounts of ISK (even for day 0) and they are completely isolated. Mining is broken, not only because it's doable AFK.
