Spontaneous Decloaking

A friend and I were stalking some guys running sites in a C4. We were in stealth bombers. All the guys left the site when the sleepers were dead and within a few seconds the noctis warps in and begins doing his work. My friend and I are of course cloaked and probably a few km from each other and about 200k from the noctis. We get distracted by our scout reporting a Loki decloaking near the wh we came through. So we decide not to shoot the noctis in that site, but wait until the next one. The noctis cloaks in the site he just finished.

Now this is where the weird happens.

Another minute or two goes by and the site, an anom but I don't remember which one, despawns. When it despawns, both my sb and the noctis, but not my friend's sb, decloak. I was still 200k from the noctis. I cloak back up as soon as the ship will let me, but of course the game is up and all the sudden a legion and loki warp in to escort their sleeper loot filled noctis. We go home sad and poor.

Is there something about the site despawning that would have decloaked us? Other than "don't be there" is there something I should have done to not get decloaked?

I have not seen that myself. I have had random decloaks but I have put that down to me using two screens and clicking in the wrong place or something :)

Not sure if this is consistent, but we had stuff decloaking (and dying) when they were on grid with a wormhole being rolled. So apparently a rolled wormhole sometimes decloaks things. (Shot a 2bil loki+pod-combo thanks to that though)

Sounds like a bug that should be reported.

Sounds like you waited too long. 2 SB's woulda dropped the noctis and scooped the loot before escorts would have made it on grid.

Seriously though, sounds like a potential bug.

A site won't de-spawn whilst your sat in it, so something about your story is a bit off so i can't advise on that. I suspect you went close to something you don't have enabled on your overview.

Yes we did wait too long. We thought we had the fleet all accounted for. But a suddenly appearing Loki on the wh route home caused enough soul searching for the noctis to finish and cloak. We had a bm right next to him from the wrecks so we could have decloaked him. But while working that out, the random decloaking happened.

Bug it is then.

If all the participants are cloaked, I've seen them despawn. Lost out on a radar site before because of that. I thought at first I was near something, but the noctis and I decloaked at the same time and were 200km from each other. Just no idea why the other sb pilot didn't decloak.

Combat sites will despawn even with players in them (possibly only when said players are cloaked).

When a combat site despawns it will decloak any ships that are cloaked in the site.

My experience with this is the result of 1000s of combat sites running Noctis. Unsure where the difference from the other posters come from.

despawning is normal, and I've seen it cause my ship to decloak once or twice.

site do despawn on you. once you hack the first can, timer starts ticking. in two hours or whatever, site despawns even if you are in it. happened to me plenty of times.

guys from our corp have had that happen. randomly uncloaking on poses without even doing anything and being killed.

That's different, if that happens you just tried to decloak on the wrong account.

It happened to me once. But the weird thing its that it only happened to me once.

I have been in sites when they despawn. But never had a site despawn cause me to decloak, nor should it imo. I recommend filing a bug report.

From what I remember, it's happened to me every time we leave our Noctis in the site cloaked after it's done salvaging.

Confirming that i had spontaneous decloaking happen, specially when in map mode and in warp to somewhere, from time to time it just happens that ship decloaks, i thought it's just me then a few mates told me the same thing, and when i saw this thread i was sure. Anyway the thing that happens also, when you are dual-boxing (in my case) and you press F5 for example to decloak on the selected eve screen, the other account decloaks also, it's not really often but it happens for sure.

Sites now despawn if no one is in them or the ships are cloaked.

Sites will despawn if there are no visible targets inside of it in C4s (maybe other areas of wormhole space?), causing all cloaked entities within to despawn. It could be a bug or just CCP weirdness.

I can confirm that this happens when a site despawns and you are cloaked in it. I don't know if it's an intentional or if it's a bug.

Confirming I've de-cloaked in a despawning site.

It's a thing.
