Unable to scan down anything

A couple of days ago I started scanning things down in Hisec in an Algos. Two days ago I hopped into an exploration frigate, the Heron, I began training things up to increase effectiveness of scanning. I had scanned down a couple of data and Relic sites in Lowsec. All was normal. Today after having trained up my Astrometrics skill to 2 and my Pinpointing to 2 I am unable to scan down ANYTHING. I have not changed the fit at all aside from adding modules that should help me scan these things down. I am unable to scan anything in Hisec or Lowsec and with obvious reason I have not wasted my time attempting Null. My current skills for scanning are as follows

Astrometrics: 3
Pinpointing: 2
Acquisition: 0
(Whatever this one is called): 0

I have looked up numerous guides and they are all pre-Odyssey.

if its vanishing, check your filters.

if its double dotted for 1 sig and you pick one, and it comes up empty, then the sig is at the other dot position. This occurs when the sig catches the edges of some of the probes and can thus fulfill 2 solutions. (each probe only reports a distance, and when you catch 3 probes, sometimes 2 solutions will fit). It is -more- common now that the standard launch is 8 probes. it was really rare with 5 probes.

just train them all to 3, use sisters probes and a sisters launcher and you should be able to scan anything.

I am getting those double dots and occasional vanishing but what I find the major problem to be is that I get to 70 maybe 80% resolution and then it stops going up. Nothing I do will increase it's resolution.

Thats lack of skills. You are actually be able to finish off anything that gets to 80% at 0.25au by hand placing the probes even closer. It shouldn't take more than a day to get the signal strength and positional error (deviation) skills up to 3, and fit one of the scan strength modules to your scan boat so you don't need to do that. I would say that you've also come across a streak of weak signals, and as soon as you find something like a hideout, it will hit well before 0.25.

I once tried a scan from a probe launcher fitted to an unbonused ishtar for the weakest signal in the game, and it did eventually work once I individually moved probes closer to the sig. The yellow marker at 80% is extremely close to the actual position.

Thanks this explains alot. I will try scanning with better skills later on I will let you know if it works. Fly safe.

My skills are not that good either, but I'm able to scan down anything.

I do little things like buy sisters of eve probes and launchers for my buzzard, hold Alt to drag all the probes closer together when in the pinpoint formation to get that last 10%.

Also not sure if this is a well known feature, but double clicking on the probes will centre them on the screen saves a lot of fustration when moving them over the red dot.

Want to add, as you havent mentioned your caldary frigatte skill level, that this skill boosts scan strenght using the heron by 7.5% per level.
