I've only used Windows since 98 so I can't speak about versions prior to that.

Notice a pattern here?

Windows 98 - Good
Windows Me - Awful
Windows XP - Good
Windows Vista - Awful
Windows 7 - Good
Windows 8 - Awful

A lot of folks don't remember that XP, when it was first released was pretty rough. It had a lot of hardware compatibility issues, especially for games and graphics. It took it about 6 months or so before it'd run most of my games at the time, but I actually was forced to upgrade to it sooner when I built a new computer with 1 Gig of RAM, which Win98 could not handle.

Vista's early years were similar to XP, but in some ways were actually not as bad as XP's early years. Again, after about six months or so most issues were fixed with that as well. Vista's biggest issue was that it had too steep of system requirements compared to the computers that were out. A lot of pre-built computers from HP, Dell, etc, were actually below the recommended system requirements for Vista, but the companies put it on anyway (RAM was the big thing). But, if you did have a good enough computer with properly updated drivers (Creative Labs/Sound Blaster really drug their feet getting their audio drivers updated for Vista) it actually ran pretty good.

"But that's just how I feel about it. What do you think?"

I might have gotten XP a little late but I never got BSOD or any other problems. I do remember people complaining about drivers

I got Vista a bit after it was released (SP1 I think) and it was horrible. My computer was uber elite but it was high end at the time and I was one of the many Vista fans saying "give it time". I finally had to admit Vista was a failure and "downgraded" to XP. My computer ran much faster when I did.

I will agree that many of the problems people were having with Vista was due to inadequate hardware. This brings me to the biggest gripe I have with VIsta

It's a resource hog! My computer was running it but why would I want to allocate so much of my computers power to run the OS. MS kept saying it was the "Experience" but I only run an OS just to launch programs, games, etc. The less resources that OS uses means more for whatever programs or games I'm using.

I love Windows 7. I have an occasional freeze up once in a while but it doesn't seem to run slow or anything. Just as my old Vista PC wasn't uber back then today I'm not running an uber elite $5k PC but it has an i7 and pretty decent graphics.

I remember this well, they also tried to sue some guy who made his own drivers to get Creative cards working on Vista. This is the reason I now buy Asus soundcards.

I remember sound card driver issues. I can't remember the brand I had but you had to login and authenticate who you were to download drivers. I swear they had some secret code or something LOL

If I am not using any of it, it's not success.

I too have no desire to ever buy a new Creative Labs device ever again. Especially in this day and age when on-board audio can be just as good as a dedicated card for most purposes.

meh I use a PCIe sound card for performance issues since I plug in electric guitars, keyboards, load up memory with samples and do general sound/music editing/mixing recording etc. I just cant get what I need on an integrated chip. Guess that's not most purposes hehe. Shoot, hard to even walk into a store and buy a PC any longer, everyone want's smartphones, even though staring at those little screens all day have gotta cause impotencey...
