Revisiting 4k

Well with 4k monitors already on sale and already dropping in price the time has come to revisit the 4x textures we know the art department has. Some people I have spoken to say this makes eve look fuzzy when displayed at that resolution.

All we ask is to release it as an optional download pack, as we know it's going to be a lot of data. Once downloaded simply have the option in the texture quality in the client of "4k" above high. That way people still have the option to downscale as they always have for large fleet fights.

This is not in features and ideas as it is not an idea, merely a request to revisit something that already exists.

Be serious, CCP has more important things to do, like developing another deployable module that will greatly increase lag....What?

"Mobile tidi array"

Generates system wide tidi when dropped.

No development needed, they already have the textures. We were told as much from fanfest.

and if you actually read the relevant thread on the issue of high res textures (no, I won't link it for you you lazy bastard) you would also know CCP said it isn't as simple as having people download the textures and flipping a switch.

I play on 3240x1920 and i can confirm that textures on this resolution are awful. Especially on Avatar Titan and Amarr station interior..

Cmon CCP. Its year 2014...

Hint: No, no you shouldn't.

I heard they were making the effects of that one stackable. Tidi @ 1% here we come!

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Fancy textures are nice and all, until someone tries to run them on their mum's atom powered netbook and melts it.

so like 0.0001% of EVE players will have a 4k monitor in the next year.

Ya I'd definitely put a lot of time into that. Roll

As opposed to 0 TiDi, when the servers went full supernova and people's computers were borked by the hideous lag

In days of old, back last century, before consoles, a demanding game with awesome graphics and advanced features was a big selling point. People would upgrade their PC just to play a new game. The same people would even boast that their awesome PC would play XXX at some crazy frame rate and get much street creds from it.

Sadly, these days, people wind all settings to max and will then try and play such a game on their mums old laptop that she bought second hand on ebay and when it crashes and burns spam the forums with complaints if it does not work. This is the "console effect". the generic one size fits all approach of consoles has led to expectations that PC games will also work on any PC regardless of specs.

As a result providing advanced options for people with good hardware tends to be counterproductive as the people with outdated hardware will wind the settings to max regardless and then create bad publicity by whining about it.

And thats only part of the problem. People buy "brand new" laptops for $399 and make themselves believe that is is very powerful simply because it's new. But in reality it's a piece of crap meant for old ladies running Word or Excel in an office not meant for gaming...Then they too start a whiny tirade when they get 5 FPS...

Dell are selling their new 28" 4K resolution monitors for about $700 US though the refresh rate is abysmal at that resolution and not suitable to gaming.

Never-the-less 4K will get market penetration a lot faster than you might think.

And CCP always comes through with promises from fanfest? Oops

If it was actually ready to distribute, why would they hold it back? Other than it's not quite ready....

i play eve on 8192 x 8192 Now the are not going to upgrade the graphic engine for that resolution. But i clearly can see all the errors the made in that texture lol. But when do i see my ship? almost only when iam dock the rest is just cross dots with colours nothing more so well i don`t care that allot. P
