How do I properly calculate link requirement for a given PI program run?

I can't seem to work out a reliable system for determining the link traffic my extractor node program will require ahead of time.

I'll look at the amount being mined THIS cycle, the total amount being mined, and the average amount being mined....yet the actual link traffic once I execute the program seems to bear no relation whatsoever to any of these numbers.

I'd like to know how it's supposed to work so I don't waste time building more heads on the extractor than can fit over the biggest link my remaining power grid will build.

I have read the PI wiki at http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Planetary_Interaction which didn't seem to address that question. Did I just miss it?

Thanks, and everyone have a great Thanksgiving :)

It will all change on Tuesday - link capacities are being increased by a factor of 5.

You'll probably find that the reason your numbers don't add up is because the amount your extractors suck up differs each cycle. But you do know you can upgrade the link, right? Right click on it and you can upgrade it several times to allow for more traffic. Or just wait for the patch in a few days like Scrapyard Bob pointed out.

The link capacity you need for any given program needs to be larger than the cycle that will extract the most product during that program (biggest bar on the graph).

so if your program runs 30 minute cycles and your biggest cycle extracts 8175 units you wil need a link that can handle 163.5m^3 per hour.

8175 units *.01m^3 * 2.

Keep in mind you will need to install a program to get an acurate result on what your biggest cycle will be.
