Every other thread about it in the past few days has just been an incoherent whine thread about how them and their 20 friends are quiting. Anyone mind explaining what this is all about?

Read this: ARticle on EN24

May also want to check the other articles on EN24, they have pretty concise writeups of the battle. Might also check themittani.com for a little bias towards the other side.

Basically CFC & co gathered a massive derping fleet to turn PL into a smudge.

But due to the fact it took so long to stage all the botters and RMT'ers started moaning that they go and make free afk isk.

So the Fc jumped everything onto of PL thinking it would be fine and would never cause a server issue. The result was a a proper cluster **** and now we have many many posts from CFC crying about eve is broken

CFC threw RUSRUS under the bus and N3/PL ate them like sweet candy ...

That's what happened.

Obviously not a forum / spy / market alt ...

Pl/N3 sent a 500 archon, 70 titan, 200 ish supercarrier fleet (numbers might be off but in that ballpark) about 900 people total. and went to a timer 4 hours before it was due to start so that they would have loaded grid giving them an advantage if too many people showwed up to stop them.
Russians and CFC gathered together 700 dreads plus countless supers/titan so finally kill the PL/N3 super fleet.
knowing that the system would be strained by so many people they decided to send in 1000 Domi's and to have them oaunch sentries BEFORE cynoing in the cap fleet onto the same grid as the PL/N3 lot.
The additiion of 1000 domis and there 5000 sentries meant that the dreads cynoing in took hours if they arrived at all and many were killed beofre they loaded grid and with no modules active.
Hundreds died.
the domis did nothing but make the problem worse and also die.
If they had just been happy with a 2:1 advantage in a cap fight then it could well have been the greatest fight in eve history.
instead the extra 1000 superfluous pilots tipped the servers over the edge and so CFC want to blame CCP for the stupidity of trying to force so many drone boats into 1 place.

Money at its root is a form of rationing. When the richest 85 people have as much wealth as the poorest 3.5 billion (50% of humanity) it is clear where the source of poverty is. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jan/20/trickle-down-economics-broken-promise-richest-85

Tl:DR
Big fight.
CFC/RUS apparently tried the standard "Crash node, mop up people logging in, claim victory. Then ***** about broken mechanics."

Kudos to CCP for foiling this and keeping the Node up for the fight and delivering these delicious delicious tears!

With the current state of CCP creaking kit, pick a side, jump into system (if you can) and toss a coin who will be the victor..
Personally I can't blame anyone for wanting to quit after suffering fights like this. I did one for 8 hours a couple of months ago and since then decided never to do it again ...ever..

as an outsider observer who enjoys reading the forums about all I've been able to ascertain thus far is summed up basically as:

"i'm sad about stuff."

if there is some greater implication behind it all, well, i'm sure it will come to light in due time.

RUS/CFC thought the servers were from the future. They aren't. Despite this they tried jumping in.

Unsurprisingly it went bad for them.

One day I will have a blog. Be thankful that day isn't today.

Seriously though changing Sov so it isn't everyone pilling into one system at once would be nice.

Like an ESS but the polar opposite.

One day I will have a blog. Be thankful that day isn't today.

This is the true story.

CFC dumped 2800 ships on the same grid as N3/PL and cry when their server crash tactic didn't work.

If CFC and pets can't play with the big boys they need to go do faction warfare. Then I can kill them all.

Yea, something like this would be more interesting than the garbage that is in place.

People would have to actually use the systems to hold them.

Simple.

The EVE Servers cannot handle big battles. What else is there to say really?

Well except mostly every one knows this but shows up anyway. Lagged out, hung up, expensive ship lost.

The End...

Some guys attacked a system and theres some things you have to do but it all comes down to one final timer. So they loaded all their stuff into the system right after downtime and sat there for hours saying "come at us bro."

Then the defenders formed up all their stuff- CCP was live monitoring the event and even hotswapped a node to help alleviate stress in the formup system- then they jumped in.....

......

Thats what happened- all the defenders capitals got stuck in jump tunnels for hours even though they appeared on grid and were targetable. Pretty much the only thing that was working was titan doomsdays.

It was a turkeyshoot and the defenders lost over 300 dreadnoughts without being able to fight back.

Funny then that the 1000+ pilots slugging it out in Hysera at the same time HED was going down didnt have any issues beyond some heavy tidi, and we got more kills to boot.
